I'm Nate! A visual storyteller currently based in NYC.

Born somewhere on a farm in the amber heart of Pennsylvania, I was raised always asking "why?" While it tossed my parents into a daze of inadequacy, it left me with an insatiable appetite for newness. It wasn't until my misguided puberty had subsided that my amaranthine romance with travel fully took hold. Since then, it's brought me into the folds of several remarkable cultures, across Paris and Stockholm, through Sydney and San José.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Every time I step out of an airport, or follow the scent of a street vendor, or get lost on purpose, I find my own consciousness enveloped by the collective energy of the people around me. I vanish within the narrative unfolding in cafes and museums, on train cars and dirt roads so that the stories I write don't require a charismatic protagonist. With an anthropological wit, I dust off my journalism degree and document what I see and smell and feel to write stories that resonate with travelers and locals alike.

Couchsurfing represents a piece of the local culture that most travelers pass up for an extra pillow. To experience the habits and routines of someone who lives in the throngs of each place I visit, to learn of their favored haunts and hidden gems, and to live inside their narrative, even just for a little while, is something to covet.

It is my hope to share these narratives, to explore more cultures and to share their stories and secrets with the travelers who come after me. Today's travelers value the recommendations from their hosts over a tour itinerary, putting power in stories to excite and inspire guests to experience local culture in unexpected ways.
