About Me

I'm originally from Texas/Colorado/Oregon. I left the States (semi-)permanently back in February of 2015. My best friend and I travelled a bit around Europe doing Workaway and attempting to WWOOF. We ended up in Istanbul where we both landed jobs. I was happy with mine, he wasn't happy with his. He headed back to Texas while I continued to teach English. My girlfriend and I moved into place together. She teaches art and is studying to get her doctorate in art.
I like to explore new places and meet new people and for me, Istanbul is the perfect launching point to travel all over the world.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I met a rad dude in Rome through Couchsurfing and he helped my best friend and I work on an article about graffiti. Call it karma, reaping and sewing, or just plain being a decent human being but I've always believed that helping people who need it comes back around. Besides meeting adventurous folks is usually its own reward.

Music, Movies, and Books

I grew up listening to punk, but I like just about every genre. I've been on a medieval folk punk kick lately.
I'd have to say Kurosawa is probably my favorite director, but I like most movies - from artsy fartsy foreign films to cheesy 80's horror.
I'm reading Murakami right now. I love books about traveling, the open road, trains, and particularly anything written during the modern era.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I used to hop freight trains around the US and then I sold everything and backpacked around Europe before deciding to quasi-settle down.

Teach, Learn, Share

I make damn good tacos which are a rarity here in Turkey. I know a few good Syrian restaurants in the area and generally how to get around the city. My girlfriend knows 90x90 more than I do about Istanbul.

What I Can Share with Hosts

If I'm looking to be hosted then I'll definitely make you some traditional south Texas breakfast tacos from scratch.

Countries I’ve Visited

Greece, Italy, Macedonia, Malta, Mexico, Portugal, Spain, Turkey

Countries I’ve Lived In

Turkey, United States
