I am a calm person in general, and I tend to be more serious or playful depending on who I'm hanging out with. I'm a music lover and I like to stay physically active; I especially enjoy discovering by bike the surroundings of where I live.

As to what I do for a living, I'm a post-doc researcher. In 2024, I finished my PhD in computer science in co-supervision between Canada (where I grew up) and France (where I now live). I'm mainly working on artificial intelligence applied to medical imaging. I'm passionate about my research, but I still try to stray far enough from my computer to enjoy the outdoors!

Je suis quelqu'un d'assez calme, et je peux être plus sérieux ou plus ludique en fonction de la compagnie que je tiens. Je suis grand mélomane et assez sportif; j'adore découvrir et m'imprégner des régions où j'habite en les explorant à vélo.

Pour ce qui est de ma vie plus professionnelle, je suis un chercheur post-doctoral. En 2024, j'ai terminé une thèse en informatique en cotutelle qui m'a amené du Canada (où j'ai grandi) jusqu'en France (où j'habite maintenant jusqu'à la fin de mes études). Je travaille principalement dans le domaine de l'intelligence artificielle appliquée à l'imagerie médicale. Je suis passionné par ma recherche, mais j'essaie quand même de me détourner suffisamment de mon ordinateur pour profiter du plein air!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I've joined the CS community to distance myself from "mainstream" tourism and to better immerse myself in the culture and mindset of the people I meet and places I visit.

I think I would miss out on most of what travelling has to offer if I didn't seek new encounters, and a community like CS seems to me like the perfect place to trigger the kind of meetings and cultural exchange I'm looking for.

I was off Couchsurfing for a couple of years because of the pandemic and being too busy with my work to travel much once things started getting back to normal. But now I'm back and even more motivated than before to make meaningful connections. One thing that motivated me to do my joint PhD between Canada and France was the opportunity to live for a while in Europe, and consequently to really take my time in visiting different countries. I'm certainly not looking to blaze through Europe in a couple weeks on a trail of tourist attractions. I think that in that sense, the kind of interactions promoted by Couchsurfing aligns very well with my own objectives regarding traveling :)

Je me suis joins à la communauté pour m'éloigner des expériences de voyage touristiques et pour mieux découvrir la culture et la mentalité des gens et des endroits que je visite.

Je pense que je passerais à côté d'une part importante de ce qu'un voyage peut m'apporter si je ne provoquais pas les rencontres, et une communauté comme Couchsurfing est pour le moi le moyen rêvé de susciter cette échange, ce "clash" des cultures.

À cause de la pandémie et de mes travaux de recherche qui m'ont gardé très occupé, je me suis déconnecté de la communauté Couchsurfing depuis quelques années. Mais je suis de retour et plus motivé que jamais à faire des rencontres intéressantes! Une des raisons qui m'a motivé à m'engager dans ma thèse en cotutelle entre le Canada et la France était justement l'occasion de venir vivre en Europe pour un séjour prolongé, et l'opportunité conséquente de prendre mon temps pour voyager dans différents pays, plutôt que d'essayer de condenser une visite des attractions touristiques sur quelques semaines. À ce titre, je considère donc que le genre d'opportunités offertes par Couchsurfing correspond bien à mes valeurs/attentes en terme de façon de voyager.

Music, Movies, and Books

When I was a teen, I was a huge fan of Charles Dickens' and his bigger than life characters. I especially liked how he portrayed a realistic and lively Victorian England, even though his stories often contained a heavy dose of absurd (or caricature). David Copperfield and Little Dorrit are to this day some of the novels that impacted me the most upon reading them. In general, growing up I mostly read classics by French (Jules Verne, Alexandre Dumas, Victor Hugo, etc.) and English authors (Charles Dickens, Arthur Conan Doyle)

Quand j'étais jeune adolescent, j'ai raffolé des romans de Charles Dickens et de ses personnages hauts en couleurs. J'ai beaucoup aimé à quel point il parvient à nous faire voyager dans une Anglettere victorienne vivante et crédible, malgré des histoires qui tirent parfois sur l'absurde (ou le caricatural). What I Can Share with Hosts

My dream stay with a host is one that alters my perception of wherever I happened to stay, beyond a simple tourist's wonderment. If I meet people with interests and hobbies that match up with mine, or that don't but who are willing to share their interests, then I'm more than happy to bring my passions and experiences to the table.

Mon séjour idéal chez un hôte est une rencontre qui me permet de percevoir différement ma ville d'accueil, au-delà de la lune de miel touristique. Lorsqu'en plus je rencontre des gens avec des intérêts qui concordent avec les miens, ou qui ne concordent pas mais qui sont ouverts à me partager les leurs, alors je ne fais ferai pas prier pour contribuer de mes passions et de mes expériences.
