ABOUT ME

I grew up here in Sacramento, CA, USA. I was fortunate to grow up in a very diverse community and had friends from many different ethnic and cultural backgrounds-Hmong, Cambodian, Tongan, Samoan, Lao, Hispanic, Russian, etc. I was always interested in learning about different cultures and languages, but of course here in the USA we don't really value 2nd language acquisition, so I didn't get started until high school. I had the coolest high school German teacher who always talked about his adventures all over Europe. He spoke several languages fluently and could get by in many others. I was mystified when in class we had an exchange student from the Czech Republic and my teacher was able to understand her Czech even though he didn't speak that language. Anyways, I graduated from school a semester early and took off to see Europe for a few months. Went to college for a year and took German and Russian. Then went and lived in Bulgaria for a time and learned Bulgarian. Came back and learned Spanish here in California. Went on a trip to Tahiti. Visited Ecuador a few times. One day a read an article in Portuguese and discovered that I understood most of it and found out I can speak some Portuguese! Took a semester of French, then a semester of Arabic. It's been a while since I traveled overseas and I need to get out of here and see more of this world! Hey, my philosophy is that we are all citizens of this planet, so we need to enjoy all of it!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I don't have any experience yet. I invited someone to stay that needed a place but never heard back. I hope to get out and do some more traveling in the next few months so I hope to get good use out of it!

兴趣

I like fitness. I usually go to the gym 5-6 days a week. I like to learn languages and about different cultures. I want to keep traveling the world!

我做过的一件不可思议的事情

Stupidest thing I've done - So I was an 18 year old kid wandering across Europe. In Germany I was in a train station and I had to cross some outer tracks to get to another platform. I saw a train coming and instead of taking the proper route under the tracks or waiting for the train to pass I just ran across in front of the train. I didn't realize how fast it was coming - it was one of those ICE (Inter-City Express) trains that go like 200km/hr. Anyways, I barely got out of the way before it whizzed by and nearly sent me on a permanent vacation. It still shakes me up a bit to think of how stupid that was.
