ABOUT ME

If you asked my friends about me? I suspect they would look troubled and sigh. I'd like to think that they would say, "He's a good egg, that Nathan. A good egg." They're a terse bunch, I guess. Meanwhile! I'm a guy who's trying pretty hard to be decent and to help things be as they ought. Lately, I'm dusting myself off and trying to get out and see some things and meet some people--and it's been great.

PHILOSOPHY

Trying to be good until I learn Why.

Interests

I like being outdoors and hiking and biking and running. Last week I went running on my last day in Washington DC; a cool, bright morning in fall colors: wonderful. I am always surprised and amazed by good people--they're everywhere. Why are they like that? Why are we like this? Why do I love fall colors? I'm interested in music and books and life. I like to grill with friends. I kinda geek on bikes and hikes. I hope I'm game for anything.

Music, Movies, and Books

I like almost any music and any movie (not too big on horror) and any book. I can't say I get it all, but I'm excited to learn why it excites other people.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I've had a few moments on hikes that made me feel like any pain or suffering I have to bear in life for such moments are hardly to be counted: Wildflowers on the side of Mount Rainier above the St. Andrews Lakes. Blueberries, rainbows, golden clouds and green slopes with the ocean in the distance on a granite knob in Maine. A sunset alone on Guadalupe Peak.

I have had conversations that left me feeling a bit like that line in 'Gladiator', "once there was a dream that was Rome. . ." All shivery and solemn.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can kinda hack my way through an explanation of global warming. I'd love to try and teach that.
