About Me

CURRENT MISSION

I want to see a little bit more of this world, and meet as many people as possible along the way.

ABOUT ME

Before really settling down in the United States, my wife Heidi and I decided to take some time off to live abroad and travel the world a bit. Our journey thus far has led us to Shanghai, China, where we taught English and I studied the Chinese language. During this time we traveled through China, and fter our two-year teaching stint, we spent several months between India and the Southeast Asian countries of Cambodia, Laos, Thailand, and Vietnam.

Interests

I enjoy reading good literature and philosophy, like listening to music, watching a good movie, and I like to cook. I like playing soccer and badminton and enjoy learning about and practicing a variety of martial arts. I love the outdoors and like to swim, camp out, go kayaking, and do some hiking. I am always interested in learning more about different cultures, and of course love to travel and meet new people.

Music, Movies, and Books

I primarily listen to American indie rock and indie pop, but have recently been getting back into electronic music, such as house, techhouse, electro, and minimal techno.

Some of my favorite authors are Fyodor Dostoevsky, Franz Kafka, Albert Camus, and Joseph Conrad. I appreciate any literature that attempts to expose the human condition and am particularly drawn to existential writings.

Some movies I've seem more recently that I've liked have been "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang", "V for Vendetta", "Sideways", "Groundhog Day", "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon", and "Garden State", among others. I'm also a sucker for old Alfred Hitchcock films, and also like much of Woody Allen's work.

Teach, Learn, Share

I am enthusiastic about learning more Mandarin Chinese, both written and spoken.
