About Me

Hey, salut, привет, 你好,

I'm a student of French and Russian at Oxford University. Learning and speaking different languages, travel, and photography are my main passions.

Easy-going, friendly, up for a laugh, and keen to meet new people and try new things.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I love couchsurfing because it has allowed me to meet and connect with amazing and fascinating people that I would otherwise not have had the chance to meet - and I'm still in regular or semi-regular contact with many guests and hosts.

Interests

Long distance running, travelling and exploring, learning and speaking languages, photography, and reading. I travel the world on a small budget in the hope of meeting new people and discovering new experiences and hidden paradises.

I collect editions of Le Petit Prince by Antoine de Saint-Éxupery in the different languages of the countries I visit (or that friends visit)... I'm currently on 30+ languages and counting! My favourite is the Ukrainian edition which is in a completely unique art style, whereas the others tend to follow that of the original.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music depends a lot on my mood...normally I'll put on a playlist and see where I end up. Big fan of the Killers, Ludovico Einaudi, Stromae, Kygo's remixes - to name a few. Eric Prydz's "Call on Me" is my go-to motivational song when running.

Could name lots of movies, but I'll stick to a few - Forrest Gump, City of God (Cidade de Deus), Amélie, Les Intouchables, Hipsters (Стиляги), all of the Lord of the Ringsfilms, Titanic, Cinema Paradiso, La Vita è Bella. I try and watch foreign movies as regularly as possible, especially in languages I am learning in order to practice.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Spent the best part of seven months living with a host family in provincial Russia.

Watched a volcano erupt on Stromboli, Italy.

Camped under the stars at the Hautes-Gorges national park in Québec.

Ran the Paris Marathon in April 2016, raising money for a local hospice.

Spontaneously booked bus tickets to Vermont and arrived later that day... ended up having a fantastic unplanned two days!

Teach, Learn, Share

I am happy to teach/practice my native English with anyone who is willing! I'm proficient (not fluent) in French and can speak conversational Russian so will happily share those too.

If you want to stay with me (us), make sure to fit the word "Vienna" somewhere into your request. Even if it sounds weird in a sentence it lets me know that you've read this!

Can offer tips to help you get the most out of your camera I guess? Most people don't know how powerful the technology in their hands is if you play around with it a bit! HDR is something I like to play around with, can explain/demonstrate the process to anyone who hasn't heard of it, and I can show you the basics of photoshop or similar software if you're interested.
