About Me

I grew up in a very small town in Vermont, on a hippy commune of sorts. Nothing crazy, but a bunch of people that wanted to live outside the main stream. After college I moved to California, and eventually settled in San Francisco. I worked in various jobs moving slowly away from my roots and into a very nice, and different, life here.

Back in 2007, when traveling in Japan with newish girlfriend, we discovered it was both our dream to sell everything and travel the world. A little over a year later we were off on a one year trip around the world. 1 year turned into almost 2.5 years thanks to thriftiness, couchsurfing and wwoofing.

After countless adventures, many new friends, and a few philosophical realignments we returned home to San Francisco and started life over. Since then, 2011, I've built a new life from where I left off - being sure to incorporate what I learned on my travels.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

To share in amazing experiences with people all over the world.

For a year before our trip, I hosted about 40 people in San Francisco. During the trip I surfed in Italy and India with formers surfers, as well as China, Malaysia, Vietnam, Finland, Australia, New Zealand, Columbia, Uruguay, France, UK, Switzerland, Canada, Netherlands, and Mexico . CS was the main focal point of many parts of this adventure, and I was sure to bring that spirit of sharing everywhere I went.

Interests

I would describe myself as a geek in just about everything I am interested in.

Caution the following list may contain contradictions:
sustainable living, cutting edge technology, organic farming, economic philosophy, making things myself, cycling, downhill skiing, travel(duh)

Music, Movies, and Books

I've always wondered about this field, I guess you can learn a lot about someone from what media they use to entertain themselves, but it also may provide misdirection... anyway here's mine, take it how you like.

Movies: Documentaries that piss me off/fear for the future of mankind (Future of Food, The Corporation, Food Inc., Outfoxed: Rupert Murdoch's War on Journalism, Maxed Out, etc) Pulp Fiction, Planet Earth,
Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory

Music: Pearl Jam, Death Cab for Cutie, Johnny Cash, Benny Benassi, Dirty Electro Music I can get down to

Books: Shock Doctrine, Don't think of an Elephant, Guns Germs and Steal, World According to Garp, Shantaram.

Too many... everything is a amazing if you look at it the right way.
