Musica, film e libri

Music: indie folk. I'm from portland... we've got such great indie folk here. Decemberists, for one. Blind Pilot is another. I like Fleet Foxes, Vampire Weekend, Coldplay, U2, Queen, Davie Bowie, Hey Marseilles, old swing music, jazz, classical, stuff with good cello solos... haha yeah.

Books: Oh gosh. where to even start? To Kill A Mockingbird, Harry Potter, Brave New World, Love is a Mixtape, Lord of the Rings, The Odyssey & the Illiad, a lot of Norwegian Fiction, Jane Austen stuff, Oscar Wilde, Poe...

Movies: Amalie, Across the Universe, Joyeaux Noel, Lord of the Rings, The Pianist, White Christmas, Benny & Joon, Monty Python..

Una cosa incredibile che ho fatto

After 5 months after the horrible earthquake in Sichuan, I went to China and actually had the opportunity to go to the mountains where the earthquake took place and teach English for a week. It was such a ridiculous experience -- meeting the kids, all of whom had lost SOMEONE - be it friend or family member... it was impacting. And to realize that these people werent POOR.. that they were wearing name brand clothes and had previously lived in a very middle-class summer tourism town...and seeing how they were living AFTER the earthquake... made it all the more just, weird, and mind-blowing. You expect devastation in poor areas. But to see a middle-class area reduced to nothing was hugely impacting. It made me realize how fragile life is.. how what you have can be gone in an instant.. and if it was, would I still be able to laugh and smile like those kids? It was a pretty crazy experience.
