About Me

Hi there! My name is Natsumi. :) I was born in Mexico, grew up in the U.S.A. (specifically Salt Lake City, Utah), went to university in Virginia, and am currently living in central/eastern France near Lyon. I’m an English language assistant at a lycée and taught French and Spanish at the high school level back in the states. I’ve also done work with educational non-profits and have a big soft spot in my heart for teaching and learning. <333 I love memes, traveling, eating, going to art and history museums, to concerts, and to the theatre, reading, and laughing, and I always want to make new friends. Makeup is where I find my zen and the beach is my happy place.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I’ve heard good things about it! I’m pumped at the prospect of getting to meet new people while I explore and discover new places! After all, we’re all just souls in meat bags on a rock hurtling through space. We may as well make the most of it! :D

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: I really enjoy popular music from the U.S. and Latin America. My most played playlists on Spotify are “Top Hits” from both of those regions. I tend to listen to more pop, punk-pop, alternative, hip-hop, classic rock, and EDM - but I’ll honestly give everything a try. Current personal favorites include Jon Bellion, Post Malone, Ariana Grande, The Killers, Panic! At the Disco, Sia, and Lady Gaga.
Movies: I can’t do scary anything, so no horror, thriller, or suspense. I tend to enjoy French film a lot - lots of emotional reflection and stories that are heavy on the dialogue. But I also love action movies; I’m a big fan of MCU films, with special love in my heart for Black Panther, Doctor Strange, Spider-Man, and Iron Man. I grew up on anime, so anything Hayao Miyazaki rules in my book, and I’m also a fan of Disney and fantasy like LotR/The Hobbit and Harry Potter.
Books: Yo I’m a huge nerd and love reading. I want to read everything, but I tend to gravitate toward similar genres as movies: fantasy, surrealism, and realistic fiction. I love all kinds of books too - big ol’ tomes and quick novellas, collections of poetry and essays, fairy tales, whatever, I got you.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Achieving my life-long dream of living in France!

Teach, Learn, Share

I love languages and art and history, and I’m always looking for opportunities to learn everything I can about these topics! I have lots of really random information I happen to know and I love talking to people and engaging in fun conversations.
I do have an unfortunate habit of constantly jumping on a conversational tangent - but I usually find my way back to my original point!

What I Can Share with Hosts

I’m a neat, polite, and respectful person and pretty easy-going and fun to talk to! I’m always excited to learn about pretty much anything and it makes me super happy whenever I get to share any of my own knowledge.
