About Me

CURRENT MISSION

farming

ABOUT ME

I've spent this past winter working and hiding out from the world. I spent much of my time reading, taking pictures, or sauntering through the wilderness... sometimes I did a combination of those things.

I've been working on an organic dairy farm in Massachusetts until recently and am now working on a vegetable farm in the Hudson Valley.

I have a somewhat dry, sarcastic sense of humour and crave intelligent conversation... though when I am comforatble and/or sleepy I tend to talk a lot of nonsensical hoo-ha.

I tend to enjoy the simpler things in life and prefer quality to quantity whether it be food, news/information, coffee, or conversation. I try to see the wabi-sabi-ness in all things.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Though I opened this account ages ago I never used it. I can't get away from the farm much during the season but would be happy to host.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have couch surfed probably three times in my life and never through this site. I would like to get more involved, both surfing and hosting, as this is a great way to travel and meet interesting people.

Music, Movies, and Books

I always have at least one book going at a time. Lately it's been mostly farm related reference books but beyond that some of my favourite authors are Kurt Vonnegut, Mark Twain, David Sedaris, Hermann Hesse, and Jhumpa Lahiri.

Paul Simon; George Harrison; David Bowie's earlier stuff; Cat Stevens. Etta James, Otis Redding, Billie Holiday. Willie Nelson; Johnny Cash

NPR; Freakanomics; Radiolab; Stuff You Should Know

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I spent two years living in a tent in the middle of nowhere southern Utah. I can't even begin to put in words how that experience has changed my life.

Teach, Learn, Share

I am a farmer and have worked primarily with dairy cows and goats, pigs, both meat and laying hens, and am just now setting up my first apiary. This summer I will also have a small veg garden, so I would love to help out on your farm or in your garden. I also play the guitar a bit, know a fair amount about Vajrayana buddhism and meditation, and enjoy cooking and baking.

There is very little I don't want to learn. Share with me what you love.
