About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Circumnavigate the globe without flying

ABOUT ME

Always out to learn new things and try new experiences. I'm easy-going but I like to work hard and have big ambitions. Always looking for the positive side of things, treating everything as an opportunity and trying to learn from everyone I meet.

When I travel, I am very flexible.

I was born and raised in Ireland, lived and worked in New Orleans from 2007-2010. In October 2011 I started what I expect to be a 3-4 year trip around the world without flying.

My Facebook profile is mostly public so feel free to find out more about me there:

I also run a blog about thinking for yourself, living your dreams and pissing off zombies:

PHILOSOPHY

Be the best person you can be; help and inspire others to do the same. Always look for win-win and leave people better than you found them.

Music, Movies, and Books

I read a lot, mostly non-fiction. Stuff like The Essential Gandhi, The Four-Hour Work Week and Man's Search for Meaning, but I also like The Alchemist and anything with a good moral/lesson. Trying to read at least one book every week since 2012.

I'll give any movie a chance. Favorites include Benjamin Button, Fight Club, Seven, Carlito's Way, Blow, Amelie, Good Will Hunting, Shawshank. I don't own a television, which is nice.

I like to think I can appreciate most types of music. My taste ranges from classical to hip hop, and one day I'm going to learn to play piano so I can do the whole Bill Murray at the end of Groundhog Day thing, and then some Andie McDowell clone who actually looks more like Jessica Alba or somebody because Andie isn't all that hot, she's gonna be helpless to my Murrayness.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Currently traveling the world without flying, on a 4-year mission to circumnavigate the globe.

Crossed the Pacific Ocean on a cargo ship:

Moved 4000 miles away from home to live in the city where my favorite basketball team plays.

Tried stand-up comedy a couple of times.

Did a bunch of crazy things for my Random Acts of Courage project in January, 2011: http://www.ndoherty.com/random-acts-of-courage/
