About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Learn about the world

ABOUT ME

Life is a creative adventure full of exciting possibilities. I'm stimulated by new people, ideas and experiences, and am curious, imaginitive, energetic, enthusiastic, spontaneous, versatile, friendly, supportive, personable and perceptive. I like to ride my bicycle, with the freedom and flexibility it offers, as well as being an environmentally sustainable transport mode and one which can keep you fit and active. So I have done a few tours on my bicycle. I currently work as an engineer at Melbourne Water.

PHILOSOPHY

I like to experience many different things, people and places.
Time is important and there isn't enough of it, so I always try to make the most of it and like to keep busy. I also like to bumble along and jump on opportunities that arise.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I am open to having couchsurfers stay at my place whenever the opportunity is available, as well as surfing on other peoples couches.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

As far as surfing goes, the official couch surfing experiences I have had so far were staying with some students in Leuven, Belgium, and staying with a guy in Koblenz, Germany. However, I've more spontaneously stayed at many peoples places whom I've met along my travels, or simply with friends when I'm going places.
While living in Melbourne, I've hosted lots of travellers.

Interests

Hanging out with friends, playing guitar, listening to music and seeing bands, travelling, playing sport, bicycle racing, bicycle commuting, bicycle touring, camping, hiking, reading, writing, photography, philosophy, growing my own food, urban foraging. I'm interested in many things!

Music, Movies, and Books

My favourite band is Porcupine Tree, other bands I like include Opeth, Tool, Radiohead, Led Zeppelin, Tori Amos, Air, Karnivool, Elbow, Ween, Pink Floyd, Midnight Oil, the Knife, Jethro Tull, Grails, the Flaming Lips, the Drones, the Doors, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club. I like a wide variety of music, including most genres of rock (progressive/experimental/indie/alternative/gypsy rather than the typically bland mainstream or pop genres), some metal, jazz, classical, I'm open minded with music, and like discovering new music. Music enhances my life.
I like reading books when I have the time, but often don't seem to find the time. Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter were good reads, and the Tomorrow series by John Marsden. I recently read'Memoirs of a Geisha" and I'm currently reading the God Delusion by Richard Dawkins.
I enjoy watching movies when I can find the time.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

In 2010, I cycled around Europe for four months and covering 9000 km, which was a pretty cool experience. I mostly stayed in hostels and camped, but also couch-surfed. It was toward the European winter, so I ended up riding through some cold/wet weather and even snow! I wrote a blog about the trip too.

Teach, Learn, Share

As an avid cyclist I know stuff about bicycle racing, bicycle touring and bicycle culture. I know a lot about music and bands. I have a degree in civil engineering and in atmosphere and ocean sciences so I know about climate science. I know about farming and country life since I grew up on a farm, and about city life, I like the inner northern suburbs of Melbourne. I work in Network Planning at Melbourne Water so I know about Melbourne's water and sewerage network.

Countries I’ve Visited
