About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To live in different places, meet different people, and see different things.

ABOUT ME

I'm easy-going and open, and I like to be active and involved with my life. I really enjoy getting to know other people, and I'm interested in expanding my own perspective through meeting people and trying different things. I love the Arts, and particularly love music. I have a real fascination with words, as well. Despite that, I also enjoy being very physically active. I practice daily meditation, and I'm a vegetarian. I like dancing. I like Ideas. I'm not a loud person, but I do really enjoy talking to people. I think the world is a really remarkable place, and I'm excited to see more of it.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Well so far I've really only surfed...but I expect that will change with time.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

With Florence, in Dunkerque! I stayed for a few days with her and her son, and that was my first introduction to Couchsurfing. She was a really great host, and made me feel super welcome - you can read my review of her if you'd like more details - but it was really great.I also stayed with An, in Bruges, who was an impressively strong and generous woman who took me in on short notice and showed me a great time in Belgium. We got along extremely well, and I can only assume that her lack of review for me has to do with the busy-ness that was developing in her life as I left. But I had a lot of fun in her house, and really enjoyed the experience. And then I've had a lot of experiences recently with the kindness of strangers in new places; experiences that are compatable with CouchSurfing, although they weren't generated through the site. I met Anselm in Berlin on the street, and went to his house and we became best friends; I met Christhof hitchhiking through Germany, and we sang to each other in his van and talked about poetry and then stayed at his lodge together; and I've met many other people who have given me accomodation and shown me great kindness - the kind of people who should be on CouchSurfing, but aren't...yet.

Interests

Music - I love all types, performing as well as listening.Reading - I particularly like poetry, but I don't discriminate.Physical Activity - I'm an avid cyclist, but I also love swimming and almost all sports. I really enjoy ultimate frisbee.Writing - All sorts! I'm trying my hand at writing more, and I find that really enjoyable.Art - I'm not much of an artist, although I will happily make art; but I do love seeing art, from the Great Masters to the guy down the street who peddles pictures for cash.Talking - I love exchanging ideas and thoughts, and I don't discriminate about which ideas or what kind of thoughts. Plus, the human contact is so great!Meditating - I'm interested in meditation, largely because I've seen the positive effects of that sort of mindfullness on the people around me.Meeting new people - So many stories! And wonderful experiences and jokes and lessons and everything else that comes from meeting someone.Eating good food - I don't eat meat (except for what comes from the water), but only at great sacrifice. I love food, and I'll try almost anything.Seeing new things - Of course! What traveler doesn't enjoy that.

Music, Movies, and Books

Alice in Wonderland is a terrific book. If you haven't read it recently, you should go do that now. Also, read it out loud! It's so much better that way.I watched "Pina" with my brother in Halifax, and I really liked it. It was beautiful to watch, and inspired many different thoughts not only in me, but also in the people that I watched it with. So, I recommend it! At the very least you'll have something to talk about. I should add as a caveat though, that it may not be what you are expecting to see, even if you know who Pina was.I came across "The Unthanks" before leaving Canada. Very beautiful folk music playing family group. I especially like the song "The Testimony of Patience Kershaw," which is of particular interest not only for its beauty, but also for where the song came from.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I played the bagpipes in front of a palace once!

Teach, Learn, Share

I know a bit about bicycle maintenance, and a bit about some other odds and ends too. I'm always excited to learn, and I'm happy to try most anything.
