Overview
About Me
I come from just outside Carlow town, but have been in Dublin for most of the last 16 years
I like to think of myself as a fairly intelligent, generally interesting and knowledgeable guy, with a good sense of humour. But then we'd all like to write our own reviews!
I'm a non-smoking vegetarian with a serious fondness for spicy food, 80s power ballads, he GAA, and all things Spanish.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I have used CS to meet some great people in Asia and Latin America, and have hosted a bit in Dublin. Though not for a few years.... Just getting back into it now. It's just a great way to meet lots of interesting and different people.
Interests
Talking politics, history, economics, religion, sociology and lots of other stuff I know little enough about, but think I do a reasonable job pretending I do. I like playing the guitar, reading, and some writing when I have the time
Eating, drinking, eating and eating. Cheese is one of my favourite things in the world. And because I enjoy reaffirming stereotypes, I love potatoes and beer, though not necessarily together.... Needless to say I love to travel, and when I'm travelling I love to eat.
Music, Movies, and Books
Mainly classic rock, love everything the Beatles to U2, Dylan and Springsteen.
Also into a bit of alt country, bluegrass, some Motown, indie rock (Britpop was my teenage years), 60s pop, and Frank Turner is my modern day hero.
Movie-wise... The Godfather, Chinatown, The Sting, Hitchcock, classic 70s stuff, Shawshank, The Shining, Silence of the Lambs, Tarantino, anything with Paul Newman.... almost anything the Coen brothers have ever done.
I wish I had time to read more. What I do read is mainly non-fiction stuff. Niographies, history books, political memoirs etc. I do love George Orwell though. I think that means I take some enjoyment from human misery??
