Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Five years ago, I surfed in Bergen, Norway with a friend, and it was a revelation. That someone would so warmly welcome two strangers from another land into their home illustrated simultaneously the immensity of this world and the untapped potential closeness of its occupants.

Though I have obviously slacked since then (that's still my only time having done it), I'd very much like to get back on the proverbial horse. I'd love to meet you and see/hear/learn about where you live.

Interests

I play bass in bands over here in New York, and more and more it's been taking me to other places too, which is already a distant dream realized. I grew up playing the Irish fiddle and have unfortunately lapsed heavily in that respect, though I've been picking it up again a bit lately!

I read quite a bit, though it would be hard to describe what I like in the abstract. Some books I've read this year include: Bad Behavior - Mary Gaitskill (currently reading), The Rings of Saturn - W.G. Sebald, In The Distance - Hernan Diaz, Brother in Ice - Alicia Kopf. If you like poetry, read Actual Air by David Berman and thank me later!

I love the New York Mets, though I'd never recommend anyone else do the same. It's a bed of pain we devotees are chastened on.
