Hi! I'm Neepam. I'm a 25-year-old medical student from New Jersey (born and raised). I'm taking a year off from med school to do some community organizing in Seattle.

I’ve been lucky enough to travel and see the world -- including three months interning in rural India and six months in Nottingham, England. I’ve made friends and connections with folks from all over the globe and all walks of life, and its something I want to keep doing no matter where life takes me. Even though I’m in the sciences now, I majored in English and still have a deep, abiding love for literature/music/the arts and care a ton about social and economic justice. I’m excited to share my interests with the folks I meet on here, and to learn from them in turn!

In a new city, I look for the best places to eat on a budget, the most stunning views, the best used bookshops, the weirdest/most subversive art, and where I can go dancing and have a good time.

Being a medical student means being on a tight budget, but I don't want that to get in the way of seeing new places and meeting new people. I love hearing other people's stories and sharing my own. I've found that a place's story is in its people, instead of in a laundry list of sites and landmarks taken from a travel guide or website.

I'm on here to meet new people in the places I travel, hopefully find a place to stay, and to come away with a better understanding of where I can go to truly experience what a place has to offer.

I enjoy reading, hiking, running, exploring unknown cities and trails, checking out museums and galleries, and exploring nightlife. I'm passionate about social justice, and as a medical student spend a lot of time thinking about health disparities and how we can fix them.

I love music across the alternative/indie/electronic spectrum, with the occasional classical or Bollywood track thrown in the mix. My favorite artists at the moment are ODESZA, Charli XCX, Kasbo, and Janelle Monae. I make seasonal playlists, so if you want to hear what I'm listening to just ask for the link!

I try to read as much as I can -- I love everything from nonfiction to short-stories to science fiction. My favorite books are "The Namesake" by Jumpha Lahiri, "The Tiger's Wife" by Tea Obrecht, and "A Manual for Cleaning Women" by Luscia Berlin. Lately, I've been loving Alice Munro, and welcome new book suggestions!

I can share my own and my family's stories, recipes they've handed down for generations (my grandmother says I'm the best cook out of her seven grandkids!), tons of good music, and a solid night on the town (if that's their thing!)

I’m a low-maintenance guest, and relatively self-sufficient, but also friendly and down to hang out. I’ll be in your hair as little or as much as you’d like.
