About Me

CURRENT MISSION

"The aim of life is to live, and to live means to be aware, joyously, drunkenly, serenely, divinely aware."

ABOUT ME

I'm a freelance cinematographer. I'm fortunate enough to do a job that I love... which allows me to meet interesting people, go to various places and have many experiences the average person would not. I come from a horse racing family and am currently directing a documentary about the first generation of female jockeys.

PHILOSOPHY

Be kind and honest, keep to the simple, be fair and generous, don't try to control, respect others, do what I enjoy, and try to be completely present.

the last one is the toughest.

Music, Movies, and Books

Unfortunately, I haven't had that much time to read lately. The last three books read were No Easy Trip, Built to Win, The Way of the Peaceful Warrior.

As far as music, boy that varies. Nick Drake, Ben Harper, Jeff and Tim Buckley, Tom Waits, Woven Hand, Damien Rice, Love and Rockets, Tones on Tail, Air, Amy Winehouse, Belle and Sebastian, Bjork, Blue October, Bright Eyes, Dead Can Dance, Cesaria Evora, Curtis Mayfield, Einstürzende Neubauten, Gogol Bordello, Johnny Cash, Kate Havenvik, Katie Melua, Nick Cave, Nortec Collective, Pink Floyd, The Beatles, The Doors, The Polyphonic Spree, Portishead, Radiohead, Sigur Ros, Sisters of Mercy, The Cure, Skinny Puppy, Starsailor, The The, Thievery Corporation, Throbbing Gristle, Tom Jones, Van Morrison, World Party, blah, blah, blah.

Films. That's tough. I love documentaries...Maysles Brothers, Errol Morris, Wiseman, I'm really not into your big blockbuster action films where there is no talking for 20 minutes because the lead character is running from something or in a getaway chase car. I like Milos Forman, Lars Von Trier, I am Cuba, The Cranes are Flying, The Conversation, Tender Mercies. I like the smaller character driven films. Having been a film festival director for seven years and a programmer for two, I've seen thousands of films. I usually don't remember remember films, only by the way it made me feel. I hardly remember actors, storylines, etc....which makes it frustrating to talk film when I haven't seen the film in awhile. I'm the guy who will see something at the video store that looks great, take it home, pop it in the player and ten minutes into it realize that I've seen it before.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

How can I name just one. Soaking in the Blue Lagoon in Iceland, meditating inside a pyramid in Egypt, getting held up by the police in Cairo, hot air balloon ride over Luxor, spraining my ankle on The Great Wall in China, throwing light bulbs off the roof of a 5 star hotel in Beijing, eating octopus from a street vendor in Hong Kong (not a good idea), walking from Tallahassee, FL to Wash DC with 30+ Native Americans for 3 months, sweat lodge w/Old Bear, helping a 55 yr old buddhist nun build a peace pagoda, horseback riding in Costa Rica, swimming with manatees in Florida, skydiving over the Atlantic Ocean/coast, the crystal baths in Brazil, watching a grown woman pee in a blender at Burning Man (you had to be there), I'm sure there are others, just can't think of them at the moment.

Countries I’ve Visited

Brazil, Canada, China, Costa Rica, Egypt, France, Germany, Iceland, Italy, Mexico, Morocco, Netherlands, Panama, Peru, South Korea, Spain, Switzerland, United Kingdom, Virgin Islands, U.S.

Countries I’ve Lived In
