About Me
I haven't updated this since I first got it, just realised it said I was still a student which sadly was 3 years ago. I'm a pretty relaxed Irish guy who's main joy in life is people. I always enjoy getting to learn about someone new, what they've done/ think and all that craic. More than often this involves at least a little bit of alcohol in Ireland which you'll realise if you're coming here, and as is stereotypical of my people I have a bit of a fondness for an evening in the pub.
Its very hard to sum up my interests, as I assume it is for everyone, but if you can talk about any subject with a bit of passion, or make stupid and somewhat inappropriate jokes I'm going to enjoy being around you.
If you catch me on a hosting weekend great :) Otherwise I'm around a bit to show the city/bars or can just give a bit of advice or recommendations for my little part of the world for your visit, so get in touch!
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
When I was in University, I had an apartment where anyone could crash. My friends would ask could their friends stay etc. and it was always a pleasure to meet and host new people. After a while, someone suggested we give couchsurfing a go, so a couple of years ago I signed up. I had a couple of great experiences with it, but after I had to stop hosting for a while (probably 2 years) due to my housemates not enjoying it etc.
Recently I decided to get back involved, and am starting to host again, although its less of a free for all. As I've gotten older, I've realised that you don't need to be doing something every night, a bit of down time is important too. I'm yet to stay with anyone from couchsurfing but I'm eager to try it. I'm only on Maybe Hosting as I will only do it a few times a year, but please message me and hopefully we'll align and have a bit of craic together!
Music, Movies, and Books
Musically I'm a big fan of The National at the moment, but like pretty much anyone you ask this question to, I like a bot of everything, just depends on whether it fits the mood.
On books, I'm getting back into reading a bit more, but its hard to pick out favourites. Recently The Fountainhead and I am Pilgrim have stuck with me, but longterm the ones that stand out are The Lord of the Rings, HArry Potter Series and 1984.
On films I can enjoy anything from the stupidly dumb to the highly profound. However the ones that stand out to me are the ones I need to talk about after - Ex Machina is a great example of this. I suppose in that vein, Sci-Fi is becoming an area of real interest, but I'm relatively new to giving it a decent portion of my film time, so if you have any recommendations hit me up!
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I slept under a car when I got locked out one night, so I really know the benefits of giving someone a place to stay.
Teach, Learn, Share
I suppose this is a strange section to me, I wouldn't have the most marketable skills, but I'm really open and chatty so hopefully I bring an interesting experience to people I meet. I would offer to share Irish food, but our food culture isn't the most sought after. I looked into this a while ago, and a historian told me that it was because we always had a fresh and local supply of fish, meat and vegetables that we never had to use spices etc. to preserve our food. I don't know if this is completely verified, but I found it a bit interesting.
