Music, Movies, and Books

I like a lot of music, but mostly experimental stuff. My favourite music to see live is free jazz and good electronic music. I like folk music, as long as it's a bit raucous. I'm sure to like anything labelled as American Primitivism. I also have a real soft spot for pre-1950s gospel, country, bluegrass and show-tunes (makes me feel nostalgic for a time and place I never knew...).

My taste in movies is the same kind-of thing. I'm really interested in old silent movies, and avant-garde cinema from around this time. Other than this, my favourite filmmaker is Luis Buñuel. The best film I've seen recently is probably Godard's 'La Chinoise'. I'm trying to learn more about Soviet cinema as well.

My favourite book is 'Don Quixote'. I'm especially interested in philosophy, and like reading thinkers associated with the Frankfurt School, the New Left and post-structuralism. I'm also trying to learn more about the history of philosophy though, and currently reading (struggling through) Spinoza.
