About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Hitch hike my way from Ireland to Amsterdam before flying to Finland and spending the summer camping in the wilderness

ABOUT ME

I'm a 29 year old recovering workaholic (one day at a time) with a passion for conversation, the outdoors and trying new things. I set up this profile so I could couchsurf with my girlfriend Anni this summer, and I was hooked instantly, to be able to converse with local people in their own environs and get the inside scoop on what a city or town is like is fantastic. I like to write about my travels and I hope to be able to share the stories with my hosts once e trip is over, and after that host many more surfers of my own. I have a wide taste in pretty much everything and I have an easy smile and an open mind, we'll get along great I'm sure :)

PHILOSOPHY

Life is about taking risks, but the least you can do is wear a helmet.

Better to have 6 cups and one bottle than 6 bottles and one cup.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

So far I've just been surfing, I like to cook for the host families if I can , but so far the hospitality has been so enormous I haven't really had the chance! I like to leave some small keepsake with whoever I stay with, as I don't think I'd could leave without repaying the incredible kindnesses I've received , even if it's in just some small way.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

In a word; incredible. My experiences have strengthened my belief in the world and it's people in less than a week that a career in a corporate environment took 8 years to erode it. "everything is awesome!"

Interests

Reading, good beer with good people, I love to BBQ for people whenever I can, intelligent films, dumb b movies, music of all kinds, meeting people who have a passion and a zest for life, watching people who are good at what they do- doing what they are good at. Learning foreign language phrases, photoshop battles with my artistic friends, making up dumb jokes and poems for Facebook twitter, stand up comedy

Music, Movies, and Books

Books:Vonnegut, Palahniuk, Hunter S Thompson, Norman Mailer, Thomas Pynchon, many many many more. I eat books like candy and just like candy- the stranger the better.

Movies- mind bending movies, Jadorowski, anything by Terry Gilliam, Tarantino, I don't really have any strong preferences as I like to take recommendations from people as I think this is the best way to find the real gems. I have a weakness for stoner comedies, and general low brow humour( best example is 'Hot Rod')

Music: everything from Son House to Die Antwoord, QOTSA to Ukelele Mama, there's genius in every genre.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Saved a life, driven a riverboat, bungee jumps (hate heights-but love danger) flown in rescue helicopters, and honestly -couchsurfed this year. Amazing.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach computer literacy, as well as general troubleshooting skills ( how to break down a problem (of any kind) reduce it to its component parts and investigate how it happens and how to stop it.

I was an ambulance corps trained medic In the reserve defence forces of Ireland so can teach you basic first aid if you like.

I also make a mean lentil and chorizo stew but those secrets are much harder to get from me ;)
