About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Make it home in one piece, eventually.

ABOUT ME

I'm on a "small world tour" with my guitar and a new album.

I am travelling west starting from Newfoundland until I'm in Newfoundland again. I have a new album that I'm quite pleased with so I want to spread it around.

I am a songwriter who does a lot of cooking and odd jobs. I write songs in many genres but they're usually quirky tunes about something specific. You could call some of it comedy. You might even call it political. I'm a pretty open minded and chatty guy.

I like to travel and play shows in new towns. A lot of the time I do this solo -either with a guitar or flowing with a beat. Lately I've been on the road with my band, The Discounts.

I was vegetarian for many years so I can cook for almost anyone. Lately I've been eating anything people offer -even hotdogs! I used to cook meat for people in restaurants a lot.

I'm good at recording and producing music whether it's hip-hop or bluegrass. I've organized hundreds of shows in the past 10 years and toured around Canada and Asia quite a bit.

Music, Movies, and Books

I'm music crazy!

funk (The Meters, Bootsy, James Brown, Curtis, Marvin)
jazz (Ornette, Miles, Louis, Zorn, Monk)
folky (Prine, Willy, Waits, Dylan, Guthrie, Seeger, Lehrer)
electronic (d'n'b, jungle, dub, bad dancing to house, trap)
hip-hop (Blackalicious, Mos Def, Kardinal Official, Saul Williams, Roots Manuva, Public Enemy...)
old reggae (Marley, Gladiators, Lee Perry, Steel Pulse)
new reggae (Soom T, Santigold, Gentleman, Lyricson, Elephant Man)

I always have way too much music to share. Most of the movies I watch are documentaries, charming ones like Amelie or cartoons.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I played in a Reggae band at a festival in Miquelon and took a very small boat over rather large swells to St. Pierre to make another show. In Nepal I accompanied a group of Chinese fashionistas through the mountains for paragliding, elephant riding and a crocodile safari.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can cook, play guitar/bass/percussion, make things with clay, prints, drawings, websites. I'm an audio engineering fiend. I've had a lot of construction and restoration experience and I write stories grant applications too. I guess mainly I'm a songwriter though commissions from CBC have been slow coming. I write for several bands. I'm also an English tutor though that's certainly not my favorite thing.
