ABOUT ME

I am cycling from Astoria Oregon (Portland area) to Charleston SC as a charity ride for Soldiers Best Friend an organization that prepares service dogs for Vets that have PTSD. Their motto is "Save two lives" as the dogs are rescued dogs also. While not a vet myself over the past 10 years of war I was disappointed in how often I forgot there were men and women over in a foreign land suffering a great deal. Regardless of how one feels about these "interventions" I feel it is good to think about the human cost.

I am very much enjoying my trip and hope to be complete by the end of September and average 70 miles per day. I have a tent for emergencies but after a day of pushing 95lbs up hills and into head-winds a real bed or couch is certainly welcomed. I just recently lost my riding partner who had been handling all the arrangements and was very good at it. She was missing her boyfriend and flew back to Toronto out of Missoula MT.

In Feb 2014 I became unemployed so I felt there would never be a better time to tackle something like this, learn about the country a little bit more and perhaps find out where I would like to live next.
