Über mich

Pictures of my trip and whatever else is going on: http://instagram.com/randomdooodle

I love having endless conversations with strangers.

I make tiny games sometimes for #gamejams whenever I'm online and not doomscrolling or having my labor exploited under the crushing weight of capitalism.

Fooding forever, people watching, and making new friends is pretty much 99% of what I do while traveling. And it's been amazing.

I took a six month trip volunteering (WWOOFing) on organic farms in Japan, wandering around Korea, a few places in South East Asia, and then somehow spent a whole month unplanned in India. I learned from other travelers and couchsurfers that not making concrete plans and traveling solo can be an incredibly freeing experience.

After that, a few years later ...I decided to fly away again on a one way ticket and wander around until I figure out where to go next:)

Warum ich bei Couchsurfing bin

Everyone I have met through couchsurfing has enriched my life in ways I can't begin to explain! Whether it's the hospitality in their own home or the wonderful conversations over dinner somewhere in the city, each person I have met has made a lasting impression on me.

I never get tired of the small glimpses of someone's life you get when meeting up with them and love being able to share whatever experiences I can.

Interessen

Reading is a fun thing.
I love everything about learning languages.
I am a fan of food. All food. Especially new food. I'll eat anything.
If you can show me GOOD FOOD we can be BEST FRIENDS.
I doodle a bit, can't really paint, and can sort of draw.
And really, I love having conversations. With anyone. About anything. Whenever.
I also love watching movies, but even more so love the discussion you can have with someone after it.
Learning about different cultures.
Hearing peoples experiences of growing up in their own hometowns.

Oh, and I really like walking around AIMLESSLY with friends.

Musik, Filme und Bücher

I like to read pretty much anything I can get my hands on.
Recommendations are always appreciated.
I live close to a library and frequent it a couple of times a week.
SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL LIBRARY!

Oh, and read The Jade Bone Saga by Fonda Lee and absolutely anything R. F. Kuang writes!

If you want to see more about what I've read lately : https://www.goodreads.com/user/show/43495730-neil

I also love listening to all types of music, regardless if it's in a language I understand or not.

The list of movies (like books) I enjoy is too long and goes on forever.

Eine tolle Erfahrung, die ich gemacht habe

I've spent a week working on an organic farm in Shizuoka, Japan packing oranges and working on an organic farm.

Went to an all night festival in a small rural town in Japan where hundreds of men (wearing nothing but a small cloth) carried huge drums around the city and tried to run them into each other.

I volunteered in a small cafe near the Japanese alps where we served curry and rented bicycles. I stayed with a host there who took me to an ex-zen monk's birthday party where he greeted me with his 7lbs pet white rabbit.

I did yoga on the beach during sunset in Kobe.

Ate a nice big bowl of raw beef and still-moving-wiggling octopus tentacles in South Korea.

A 10 Day silent Vipassana Meditation course. I could talk about that forever.

On a whim ended up traveling around India for a month with someone I met a few nights before in Bangkok. Annnnd came back with a million stories to tell.

Lehren, lernen, teilen

I've only been traveling for a little while but I've learned countless things from the various people I've met. Whether it be from my hosts or other travelers, every day I've learned something new.

One of the best lessons I've learned so far is that every little thing you do doesn't have to be planned 100% before you throw yourself out there and do it. There will always be reasons and excuses for why you shouldn't or can't. Don't let those get in your way.

Was ich mit Gastgebern teilen kann

How to travel with only one bag no matter how long you're traveling for!

I'm always open to helping people practice English.

And if you have any questions on how to start volunteering through WWOOF (World Wide Organization of Organic Farmers) I can share my experiences with you!
