About Me

CURRENT MISSION

My mission always seems to be to figure out what my mission is. Right now it's living in Lo De Marcos, Nayarit, Mexico, teaching English, making art, improving my Spanish and learning about the wonderful culture in this gorgeous little town. I have had so much love from the people of Mexico, it's overwhelming.

ABOUT ME

Check out my blog to get some insight into my personality:

https://www.travelblog.org/Bloggers/TheHighLife/

I was born and raised in the countryside in Ohio. I got my Electrical and Computer Engineering degree in 2007, moved to Florida to work for "The Man" for three years, got tired of the rat race, quit and sold everything and left the country.

I went to NZ for 15 months to "discover myself," "reinvent myself" or whatever you wanna call it. It's probably the best decision I've ever made. The experiences I had there and the people I met, I will never forget. I went to Thaliand after that to get my professional scuba Divemaster certification: another totally surreal experience.

Then I got stuck back in Ohio for a couple years for personal reasons. THEN I went back in the tropics where I belong, working on a scuba diving boat. After three years in Florida, I was ready for a new chapter, so I put all my belongings in my car. Now here I am, living in Mexico :)

Some people call me crazy, but they say it with affection.

PHILOSOPHY

Once upon a time, before we had hands and feet, before we discovered how to inhale the open air, we swam elegantly beneath the waves, undulating methodically as the water pulled us around this big blue earth. We were immersed in, and imbued with, the raw chemicals of life. There were no governments, no social justice or injustice, no need for hate or subjugation or separatism. We lived as one graceful organism, eating and loving each other, indiscriminately and without hesitation. We devoured every instant of life, without fear of the future or regret for the past. We flourished as the most elaborate, unprecedented, interdependent and intricate system the cosmos has ever produced. We fluttered and darted around with panache, our capricious actions subject only to our whims. We were primordial creatures born of water.

We are children of the sea.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I used to host guests when I lived in West Palm Beach, and I met so many awesome people. I found everyone to be so interesting, gracious and respectful.

In the last year I've been hosted by a few people in Mexico, and I've only received overwhelming generosity.

Interests

One day, God (or whatever word you wanna use) was so tired of hearing people's arrogance of their own beauty, he called a meeting of his advisors in the animal kingdom. He asked them where he should hide people's beauty, so they'd have to search very hard to find it. The Dolphin suggested to hide it at the bottom of the ocean. God said, "No, I think they'll go there." The Lion suggested to hide it in the deepest jungle. God said, "No, I think they'll go there too." The Owl suggested to hide it on the moon. God said, "No, I think they'll even go there as well." After a silence, God said, "Does anyone else have any ideas??" Finally, the Blind Gopher spoke up and said, "Hide their beauty inside them. They'll never look there."

Music, Movies, and Books

yes.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I had a dream that I was back at home in the country with my family. There were colossal psychedelic robotic satellites, orbiting the earth, changing color all the time. They were so big, and so close that we could almost touch them. They were quiet and elaborate, and oscillated systematically through the sky, transforming and spinning into infinity. We ran through the fields, jumping and flying, trying desperately to touch them or to gain some understanding of their presence.
..

One time I dove with a 25-ft whaleshark.
And 9 days in the rainforest on Stewart Island. Slipping and falling 40 ft. down Mt. Taranaki and burning the skin off my forearms.
Also Songkran (Thai new year) and the full moon party on Koh Phagnan... wow.
Also fighting monsoons in the mountains of Oaxaca with machetes.
Also marrying and divorcing Britney Spears within one day.
