I'm keen on the idea of connecting with "strangers" in strange lands and at home, rather than skimming your way through an experience in hotel rooms. Most people don't realize there's an alternative.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I participate by sleeping on your couch on the rare occasion that I travel. I will also bring you good conversation and gifts from my region (Southwestern US, high desert). Have had some terrific hosts met through this site, it's been invaluable!

I've hosted some really cool surfers from all over, and have helped others out in other ways too.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've surfed in Winnipeg, Los Angeles, and Albuquerque and had no shortage of wonderful experiences. I hosted a couple people when I was living in Deming, NM and met/helped others that were on their way through. Hosted several guests in my apartment in Las Cruces too. I stayed in LA with a surfer I hosted, so being able to make connections has been great!

Music: tons of crazy electronic stuff, artists like Autechre, Bola, Plaid, Amon Tobin, Orbital, Tipper, Jon Hopkins, Ab Ovo, Proem, Globular, on and on. Also some healthy doses of funk, hip-hop, alternative, folk, pop, rock, and plenty of other genres.

Books: Desmond Morris' The Naked Ape and The Human Zoo answered many questions for me. Aldous Huxley's Island informs my dreams for utopia.
