About Me
CURRENT MISSION
Eat that, drink that, listen to that, dance at that, try that for the first time and see if it's something I'm actually interested in.
ABOUT ME
I don't believe in boredom.
Saving the world with science, dabbling in human powered flight, and exploring the margins of cooking, cuisine and culture
I nerd out on cooking a bit (have a circulator, built a mock-rotovap, and built a chamber vacuum packer for sous vide). Dave Arnold is my idol. I love making anything that involves drastically transformative steps (baking, caramelizing, gelling, puffing, fermenting, etc.)
PHILOSOPHY
The cardinal sense is Verisimilitude. Both Touch and Eyeballs are unforgivably passé.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I regularly couchsurf locales as exotic as friends' living rooms and university buildings.

Music, Movies, and Books
Music: Daedelus (and a good chunk of artists on Ninja Tune), Beck (Especially Midnite vultures, One Foot in the Grave, and Modern Guilt), danceable tunes by Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Daft Punk, Justice, etc. Most of what plays at DC9 on a Friday night. And Grimes.
Books: A mix of literature, philosophy, and food writing (culture/science oriented, not so much pithy gastronovels). Allen Weiss' "Feast and Folly" is a brilliant mix of all three and currently occupying my nightstand. Short stories by Kafka, My Life in the Bush of Ghosts by Tutuola, Moby Dick, The Little Prince, The Structure of Scientific Revolutions, On Food and Cooking, Wild Fermentation, books by Bauhaus professors: Kandinsky, Albers, Moholy-Nagy, Klee.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Flew under my own human power in a helicopter. I set a world record for it in 2012!
Teach, Learn, Share
I could teach you how to make just about anything edible, even gummy bears from scratch. Or how to fold some killer origami.
