About Me

CURRENT MISSION
I recently completed my two-year Research Master of Philosophy at KU Leuven in Leuven, Belgium. My current mission is to enjoy the rest of my summer in Europe by traveling and having some friends visit me in Belgium. I will visit Emilia-Romagna in Italy, the Algarve region in Portugal, a bit of everything between Germany, The Netherlands, and Belgium, and, finally, a road trip from Brussels to Vienna. Lastly, I have to get everything ready to move from Belgium to South Bend, Indiana, where I will start my Ph.D. at the end of August.

ABOUT ME
I studied Philosophy in Buenos Aires and Leuven. For the past 17 years, I've lived in Honduras, Guatemala, Finland, Italy, Argentina, and Belgium, and I will soon move to the US. Travel junkie: can't get enough of it! Writing, reading, learning, and eating are fundamental for me. I also enjoy photography, literature, languages, diving, tennis, nature, films, and music (techno, deep house, classic, rock, folk, blues, jazz, et al.). I consider myself a very relaxed person in general; open-minded, respectful, tolerant (we all have our limits though: no tolerance for machismo, sexism, fascism, misogyny, etc.), critical thinker, doubter, and opposed to any form of dogmatism (religious, political, philosophical, etc.), emphatic, thoughtful, and considerate. Thanks to my readings and my family, I have been interested in traveling and getting to know and learn about different countries and their cultures from a young age. So, I realized that the best way to do that was through people. I'm really open to everything and everyone. Because of that, I also enjoy sharing with others everything I have learned from my studies and life experiences.

For the next 5-6 years I will be living in South Bend, Indiana, US.

PHILOSOPHY

If by Philosophy you mean a way of life, mine is not led by any religious belief or transcendental entity created by human beings. However, my way of life is not opposed to that of others who believe in them. Therefore, I respect, tolerate, and accept other people's beliefs. At the same time, I try to nurture myself through discussions and conversations about any topic since one can always learn from everyone. For this reason, I'm against all kinds of discrimination as well. Neoplatonic philosophers taught that in unity or sameness, there is diversity, plurality, and opposition.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Since February 2022, I have been living in Leuven, Belgium, for my Research Master's degree. Unfortunately, during most of my stay, I could not host because I was living in a small student dorm. Therefore, I would like to offer other surfers the chance to go out for a drink, grab something to eat, and show them around during my free time. However, when in the US, I will have my own apartment, so I hope to start hosting surfers again!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
Between 2007 and 2012, I hosted many surfers passing by Tegucigalpa. I sometimes did it along with my dad (he was the one who introduced me to CS!). However, I have also been able to surf at other surfers' couches on my own since then. I can honestly say every one of my experiences (both surfing and hosting) has been great! I've met amazing people from different countries who became friends. I've become a better person through these cultural exchanges, learning and teaching, listening to others' stories, etc. I believe that if you cannot go out to the world at some point, CS is the best way to have the world come to you. Just to have an idea, one of the most amazing things from CS: although my dad and I hosted an Argentinian couple for only two days, we connected so much that months later they even invited us to their wedding in Rosario! Furthermore, a more recent experience happened precisely as soon as I arrived in Leuven in 2022. My host was going to be traveling precisely during the days I requested to stay at his place. He was so trusting and welcoming that he allowed me to stay at his house without him being there. This had never happened to me before. It really shocked me (in a good way). This surfer rapidly became one of my best friends and he is one of the biggest reasons leaving Leuven will be very hard. These beautiful and heartwarming experiences would not have taken place if CS did not exist. So, I am very grateful.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Visiting Iceland and Bolivia with my dad and experiencing out-of-this-world places!

Teach, Learn, Share

I want to teach, share, and learn things about philosophy, history, psychology, social sciences, Honduras, Latin America, and its rich history and culture. I also would like to learn as much as I can from other countries and their cultures and languages. Intercultural learning is essential in developing a person's sense of respect, comprehension, tolerance, and acceptance of diversity among humans. I also think it is critical to make this world a better place to live in.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can share with my hosts (soon also guests, hopefully!) the possibility of having a deep, serious, and meaningful conversation on life, religion, philosophy, politics, socio-economical problems, etc. At the same time, we can share light and funny moments full of jokes, sarcasm, and irony. In summary, fruitful exchange of ideas and life experiences. I can always cook a Honduran meal if I can get a hold of the right ingredients!!

Countries I’ve Visited

Albania, Argentina, Austria, Belgium, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Costa Rica, Czech Republic, El Salvador, England, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Guatemala, Honduras, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Nicaragua, Peru, Poland, Portugal, Scotland, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United States, Uruguay
