About Me

Hi, I am Neung. I am 19 years old and I am a Laotian living in Germany.

I recently just graduated high school in Freiburg but unfortunately due to COVID-19, I am unable to return back to my home country (Laos). So, I decided to make the most out of my time here in Germany and in Europe in general. I really enjoy reading, cooking, languages, drawing, singing, writing (I write a blog), learning, hiking, and many more.

But most importantly, I profoundly enjoy connecting with other people. As an individual who is keen on learning about the world and himself, I find learning through people to be extremely effective and rewarding. It is also one of the reasons why I am joining Couchsurfing! I'm very interested to hear people's different stories especially from those whose country I've never heard of, and whose first language is not the same as mine.

I have fun just exploring different topics ranging from your pet peeve to world peace, but no matter what it is, I am ALWAYS down to just sit down, talk, maybe have some beer on the side, and enjoy life as they come.

I document my life a lot of social media, so if you want, you can check it out on Instagram: @1.neung

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Because I believe if we have the spirit to explore the world and get out of our comfort zones, we can all profoundly learn about something from one another beyond ourselves. I strongly believe that all of us are connected somehow. This is why I think Couchsurfing will allow us to realize that and provide a space where we can actually go out and explore the world while meeting and becoming friends with like-minded people. I believe Couchsurfing will be the one thing that makes me see a stranger as an unknown friend and that each individual has a story to share a soul to discuss. When traveling to another country, I have always hated the idea of seeing the country through a third-person perspective, but through a local, it will be totally different. They will provide me a lens to see the country in a manner that I could never get if I were to travel the traditional way and the things I could gain from this whole experience is just inexplicable!

Music, Movies, and Books

Favorite music: Alternative Rock, RnB, Indie Pop. Currently listening to a lot of music in Spanish.
Favorite books: The Alchemist, Sapiens, The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F, Man Up, the Harry Potter series and a lot more.
Favorite movies: Inception, the Harry Potter series, a lot of Disney-Pixar animation and many more that I can't think of right now.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I lived in a boarding school in Germany for 2 years with students from over 103 countries.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Well, the least I can share is my story and attention because I am enthusiastic to tell as much as I am to hear. I can tell you all sorts of things about my country and my culture that you would never find on a Wikipedia page or even as a mere traveler. And overall, I want to become your friend and lifelong contact.
What I might say I am the proudest of is my culinary skills! I could cook you all sorts of things but you might want to try out many of my authentic Lao/Thai dishes.

Countries I’ve Visited

France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Philippines, Portugal, South Korea, Spain, Switzerland, Thailand, United States, Viet Nam

Countries I’ve Lived In
