Music, Movies, and Books

movies: I like lots of foreign movies, including The 400 Blows, Das Boot, Jean de Florette, Talk to Her, Être et avoir, and The Grand Illusion. Pretty much any European art film where everyone dies in the end. Trashy Hollywood action flicks are a guilty pleasure. And the Star Wars movies hold a special place in my heart.

music: There are way too many bands to name. Pretty much anything played on KEXP. Lots of indie rock-ish Pitchfork-y stuff, alt dance, alt country, folk, jazz, blues, electronic, whatever.

books: I've read lots of French lit for school. Marcel Proust is my home slice. Some other classic lit here and there. The Death and Life of Great American Cities. Right now, I'm trudging through The Power Broker, Robert Caro's epic biography of Robert Moses. And coming up, I plan to read some really nerdy stuff about social stratification as well as behavioral law and economics.
