This is some my ideas for another CS who want to travel from Ho CHi Minh to Da Nang- to Ha Noi. You can use this and convert it if you travel from Ha Noi(hix, I don't have much time to make another. Sorry):
A)From HCM city whats' the best way to go to Da Nang?? Do you have any idea about the Air Fare??
We can go by train, air, bus.
If you buy air ticket, it's also quite cheap:

+ with Jetstar Airline, Vietjet Air( cheap airlines):about 35-40USD if you book ticket soon, time of flight is from 16h45 p.m.It also take you 1 hour to go from Ho Chi MInh City to my city. Check their link to book ticket online. The earlier you book, the cheaper price you can get.

+ If you like to travel by bus

You should use sleeping bus from Sai gon to Nha Trang.If you like scuba diving, you can go in the morning(Scuba diving tour will begin at 7.30a.m and finish at 1.30p.m)

There are also other scuba shops but I think this is cheap. You can check others when you stay there^^
It's convinient if you go to scuba dive shop because it's near BUs station of the Sinh Tourist in Nha Trang.
Go around Nha Trang in the afternoon.

-Then you can get next sleeping bus(7p.m) of the Sinh tourist to go from Nha Trang to Hoi An town(you will arrive Hoi AN at 7a.m), travelling around there will take you 3-4 hours(it's depend how you like it).

From Hoi An to Da Nang city, you can go to the bus station(not of The sinhtourist company) to buy bus ticket(it's about a half of dollar and there are always bus for this >way)= this help you have free time to visit Hoi An. The sinh tourist just have one bus to go in this way one day(at 8 a.m),it's limited.

-Or you fly from Nha Trang to Da Nang city

If you want to travel from Da Nang to Ha Noi, after visiting Hue, you should arrive Phong Nha Cave(only by bus).

Then, you can continue to visit Ha Long Bay( only by bus)

Finally, going to Ha Noi.

B)Do you know how much is a Budget accomodation Hotel and Home stay cost @ your city. I never use Home stay but it might be a nice experience to know the local life. :)

=In my city, hotel's price is about from 10-15 USD/night. This also depend on which city you are staying, which season?

D)Just one thing .. what about using your bank cards in Viet Nam. Is it widely accepted?? Is it safe to have Foreign Currency Notes with you. Do you have money changers in your country??

= BAnk cards:it depends on what Bank you are using service. We have many ATM. YOu can contact with your bank about this before you come here to know that you can withdraw or not?
And VND is common in my country, you can't use other currency except for accepting USD at some large restaurants and hotels.
