About Me

Hi! I'm Regina. I'm Vietnamese native from Ho Chi Minh City. Currently, I'm pursuing Master's Degree in University of Padova (Italy).

I love to discover new places, to meet new people, to comprehend our world. To me, meeting new people, learning about their stories and lives, that is I think the most important part of life experience. Through them, we begin to better understand their culture and country, most times erasing misjudgments, stereotypes and wrong impressions in the process.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I know Couchsurfing based on the recommendation of a friend I met in my trip to Bangkok. I think Couchsurfing give me a perfect outlet to meet, exchange views and have great time with different people around the world.

Traveling has always been my passion. Unlike the majority of people who tend to count how many countries they have been there, I prefer counting how many people from different countries and cultures I have met. I usually like the people of a new place and their culture because I love to compare people from different parts of the world and I always find how rich and diverse humanity is.

Music, Movies, and Books

1. READING. I like reading novel especially the Chinese romantic one. Now I’m having several books going at once, one I’m re-reading for relaxation (Gone with the wind), a new one by a favorite author (Haruki Murakami), a new author I’m trying out (Patrick Modiano) and of course of textbooks preparing for my upcoming exam.

2. WRITING. Mostly on Quora now. I used to write blogs, poems, short stories and even a freaking romantic fiction on Wattpad.

3. WATCHING. I usually spend my day watching movies on Netflix for 6–7 hours a day (with intervals, of course, or else my eyes will sore). Some of my favorite American TV series are 13 reasons why, House of cards, Suits, Grey’s Anatomy, HIMYM, How to get away with murder,…Recently, I'm so into some Netflix original series like Kingdom, YOU and Sex Education.

4. LISTENING MUSIC. I fancy all kinds of music. My favorite singers are Lana Del Rey, Shawn Mendes and BTS (especially the leader RM).

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

For the last 17 years, I stayed at home and had no experience called going to another country alone. This year, 2019, started by my first trip ever to Thailand to attend a conference. Bangkok welcomed me as I stepped out of the airport and into hot, thick air of there. But most importantly, Bangkok gave me chance to meet amazing guys that I think I will never forget about the time spending with them. They opened my mind, of course, and made me feel like I only such a little fish in a big ocean.

Every day, at the conference, I met different people from different countries. We, together, shared ideas, exchanged stories, generated actions and made great time. This is the first time I know problems, if being put in different countries with different legal systems, will open different perspectives to look at and sometimes goes against your firm belief. This is the first time I know, things, though considered optimum, not always applicable in some circumstances. This is also the first time I know deciding what to eat was so hard to Indonesian Muslim guys :)

I can’t count how many times shaking hands and exchanging personal info with other guys in Bangkok International Student Conference. I can’t count how many times feeling so shocked by stories of some people telling about their countries’ culture. I can’t count how many times having a strong desire that time please didn’t pass and it was still my first day coming to Bangkok.
