About Me

I'm easy to get along with, and always willing to help someone out in whatever ways I can. I have a quiet, under-stated, calm kind of manner about me. It's gotten me into trouble a couple of times.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'm mostly interested in hosting and meeting new people. I'm available for pretty much all of your travel needs, from a place to sleep to local transportation to recommendations about what to see and do around here. I know a lot of fun and interesting places to go around here.

Interests

I dig books, philosophical things, languages, bad jokes, maps, history, urban planning, coffee, cooking, mixing drinks for people and trying to figure out something that they'd like, impractical things and ideas, wandering aimlessly, over-analyzing things, trying new things, and lots of other stuff.

Music, Movies, and Books

I can watch almost any movie, once I get into it a little. I'm a very mediocre musician, which has inspired me to try to find something to like or learn from any music I hear. I love books. I've probably read more nonfiction, but a few favorite novels of mine are Don Quixote, The Brothers Karamazov, All the King's Men, The Stand, Cannery Row, and Anna Karenina.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

At the dramatic end of the spectrum, I'd say that seeing Neuschwanstein Castle in Germany was pretty cool. And on the simpler end of things, sometimes when I get my winter coat out for the first time in the season, I find an old dollar bill or two in the pocket.

Teach, Learn, Share

I know quite a bit about local history. Not that anyone passing through here is looking for a lecture course, but an anecdote or two can make a place seem a little more interesting, right?

People have told me that I can give good advice on certain types of interpersonal or existential problems.
