I'm an English teacher who's supremely lucky to be able to travel and see the world like I have. I love hitchhiking and making my own adventures. Anecdotes are what I live for, and you just don't get good ones by staying in hotels and going on cruises.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I've had so many ludicrously good experiences now on this site that I struggle to think of a reason not to still be here. From China to Bulgaria, everywhere has been so welcoming.

Interests

I got into teaching when I first went to Poland and haven't looked back. It ties in so neatly with my interest in linguistics and just generally sharing knowledge that I do think it's almost the perfect job.

Music, Movies, and Books

Metal and, to a lesser extent, rap. Terry Pratchett was my childhood, and I was lucky enough to meet him twice (and once at the urinal, we didn't shake hands that time). I don't tend to watch movies, but Tarantino is definitely up there as far as films I've seen.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Suffering through heatstroke in Inner Mongolia, in a house without a toilet and water that was only safe to drink after boiling. No other houses in sight, just beautiful Mongolian grassland as far as the eye could see, and desert just beyond that.

Even if I felt like dying all the time I was there, that's the best surf I've ever had.

I know a lot of crap, and I'm always willing to share it. Just the same, I live to learn more crap!

What I Can Share with Hosts

Teaching English is the most basic thing, but I love educating people on my hometown's local dialect.
I love trading stories, and making them, and more than anything I love just getting to know people.
