About Me

I love writing software, playing dodgeball, building things like climbing structures for my cats, and exploring new hiking trails.

I've found I'm much happier if I'm able to build a strong community around me. We host a weekly potluck for friends at our apartment, and I've lived in cohousing communities several times. In the future I'd love to start my own co-op house.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Meeting people is fun. Travelers are usually really interesting folks. And it just seems silly for someone to have to pay for a hotel room when we'd love to have you stop by and stay with us for a bit! And when I'm traveling, I love meeting locals - it makes the trip so much more interesting than staying in a hotel.

Music, Movies, and Books

Books: Siddhartha, The Blank Slate, Harry Potter and the Methods of Rationality, Snow Crash

Movies: Coherence, Gattaca, Brick, The Truman Show

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I was on top of a windy hill for a dawn bonfire. The sky was overcast. As the sun rose over the horizon, for a brief moment before it was covered by clouds, it hung between the horizon and the clouds, appearing to light up a giant auditorium with a ceiling of clouds and whose walls were beyond sight. I love sublime moments like this.

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm fascinated by how groups come together to make decisions, whether that's a small household deciding how to split up chores, or a city deciding how to improve its residents' quality of life. I'd love to hear what groups you're part of, and how those groups function and make decisions.

I also usually look up local dodgeball leagues when I'm in an area. It's a lot of fun, and if you're curious, I'd love to bring you along to try it out!

What I Can Share with Hosts

I'd love to cook a meal or two, or help with some household chores. I also love exploring interesting local restaurants, so instead of cooking, I'd also be happy to treat to a nice dinner at some interesting restaurant.
