About Me

'There seems to be something phony about every attempt to define myself.' - Alan Watts

I travel because I want to help bring the world's people closer together. By trying to spread humour, curiosity, knowledge, insight, information, friendship, empathy and compassion wherever I go, I want to help people realise that we're one race, one group, one team, one species on one rock flying through space.

I teach because it gives me the opportunity to travel and earn money at the same time but have also come to love being able to help people along the path of knowledge and self-improvement. I hope to become a teacher trainer in the next few years after first completing a DELTA.

I have a deep respect for free-thinkers who are committed mind, body and soul to spreading truth and empowering their audience to do the same. People such as Bill Hicks, George Carlin, Graham Hancock, Joe Rogan, Christopher Ryan, Dan Carlin, Ram Dass, Doug Stanhope, Alan Watts, Daniele Bolelli, Dave Asprey, George Monbiot, Tim Ferriss, Wim Hof, Amber Lyon, Randal Carlson and Aubrey Marcus continue to play a vital role in my own learning and development.

I devour all manner of media including music, computer games, books, music, comedy, podcasts, films, TV shows, YouTube, Reddit and more - more details below. Nowadays I'm trying to move away from too much screen time and focus more on conversation, music, dancing, laughing, reading and listening. The less you speak, the more you hear.

The old pond
A frog jumps in
Plop.

Cry
After cry
After cry of joy-
Not minding
The hair
Turning white.

Joy in the morning,
Sleep in the evening,
What else?

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I hosted in Bangkok and surfed in both Malaysia and Thailand. I have been hosting in Hanoi over the last year.

My experiences hosting and surfing have been great, enlightening, cultural and fun.

Interests

Teaching, learning, travelling, talking, reading, walking, listening, loving and living.

I see a lot of people stuck in very repetitious lifestyles. It seems to be common that people will choose one thing and stick with it til death do us part. I want to vary my interests, try different things, learn new ways of thinking, living, interacting and contributing.

I'm currently very interested in nutrition and the relationship between mind/body. I'm trying to find a way to maximise my potential through what I put in my body, how I move my body and how I feel about my body. I suppose it might sound silly but our body is the tool by which we experience the universe. Gotta take good care of it to make that experience the best it can be! So, I'm experimenting with fasting, diet and exercise. I'm up for trying new things and hearing new insights into these topics.

I want to ask 'who are you?' but in your answer you can't use any words ... what answer would you give?

I love computer games. My argument for this is that a good computer game is like a good novel, except you get to live in the world and control what happens. Sure, there are a huge amount of shitty games out there but there are some brilliant works of art with engrossing stories and fascinating characters. On top of that it's a great way to unwind and relax.

I read a lot and devour all kinds of books (favourite authors include Louis De Bernieres, Alex Garland, Stephen King, Chuck Pahaliniuk, Terry Pratchett, William Blake, Philip Pullman, Ted Hughes, Danielle Bolleli, Chris Ryan, Milan Kundera and they are in no particular order).

I think all people need a creative outlet and so now I spend a lot of time playing guitar. Let's jam!

When it comes to music I love it all if it's good. I can eargasm from good examples of any genre. That said, a large portion of my music collection falls into alternative rock, hip hop, rap and jazz. I'm always looking for new music - it's a never ending quest. Currently loving Eric Gales, Tommy Emmanuel and Snarky Puppy.

I've watched so many films in my life that nowadays I feel like the new stuff is just recycled. A lot of the stories and characters are repeated but with cooler animations and more explosions. I enjoy watching movies but try not to waste my time if it's standard Hollywood stuff. It has to be something special, different, highly praised or recommended by a person I trust for me to give it a go. That said, I love talking about films into the late hours.
