Sobre mí

I ADMITTEDLY HAVEN'T BEEN ACTIVE ON COACH SURFING FOR YEARS! SO THE BELOW IS FOR THE MOST PART HISTORICAL. I'M NOT UPDATING IT NOW BECAUSE A. I DON'T HAVE A REASON TOO AND B. I'M NOW IN A DIFFERENT STAGE OF LIFE AND I FIND THE BELOW FUNNY.

I LIVE IN FAIRLY REMOTE PART OF AUSTRALIA NOW.. SO MAYBE IT WOULD BE INTERESTING TO HOST AGAIN?

ABOUT ME

Well ok it does say "All about you"

I should probably mention that I am a tad sarcastic and that I'm not entirely serious 100% of the time.

In the beginning...

I grew up in a country town about 2 hours out of Melbourne which was (and is) a fantastically boring place full of fields, dairy cattle and a process plant which apparently produces mostly milk powder for mexico (someone from there can correct me if that's wrong :p). Anyway moved to Melbourne to study visual art for a year and a half. Which was fun, managed to host a few people in that time.

Now live in Newcastle and am studying Civil Engineering

There is a logical step of progression in there...

Moved because my girlfriend lives up here and was becoming a little disillusioned about voluntarily being a poor artist.

I feel like I should actually possess enough frequent flyer miles by now to buy a toaster as I have been travelling flying fairly regularly between Newcastle and Melbourne the last couple of years because of this.

I work for a Market Research company doing door to door surveys. It is very interesting and surprisingly not that awful. I get to meet a lot of interesting people and hear their perspectives on things. It has taught me to be a lot more open minded to where people come from and their opinions.
It has also made me very cynical of Market Research surveys and political polling.

Some other bits and pieces:

After high school travelled Europe for four months on own, which was fantastic and I look forward to returning (someday (hopefully the end of this year!!(YES THE END OF THIS YEAR))) because all the art and culture is there.

Spent two months living with a family in France.. The father of which was a translator, so contrary to plans my French is rather poor. I understand when people are talking about food and how to get food. Which is really 50% of French conversation so probably not that dismal.

I feel like I should actually possess some frequent flyer miles by now as I have been travelling fairly regularly to visit my girlfriend in Newcastle, the last year. If I didn't fly with the budget airline I'd probably would.

... (more funny clever stuff) ...

Por qué estoy en Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I have surfed before and have hosted.

Have not had a negative experience yet.

Unfortunately am unable to host in present living arrangements, but will again when am able.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I surfed a few couches in 2011 whilst backpacking Europe, through couch surfing and unofficially through just meeting people

I have also extensively woken up on people couches after a few too many drinks wondering how I got there.
Sometimes after sleeping through horizontal rain.

I have had a few experiences as a host so far and LOVE IT!! Am very keen for some more.

Intereses

At one stage I just linked this section to "Stuff that White People Like". My personal favourite is "Black music that black people don't listen to anymore". Yes that is me.

I like cooking.

Art and art gallery's. I do like art. If I go on a bit of a rant don't worry my girlfriend will probably elbow me.

Alcohol. I do like good alcohol. Especially craft beer, good wine and spirits. Am quite partial to a good gin and a martini.

I like good food and trying new things (especially when travelling as you get to play pot-luck with the menu).

Música, películas y libros

Movies: I would like to say that I have very good taste in films but some people disagree so here are some films I like: Anything by Woody Allen. Directors such as Tarantino, Kubrick and Terry Gilliam. I like dumb films like Die Hard, James Bond and Machete. And a lot of smarter films I hope.

Tv: Breaking Bad, Mad Men, Mitchell and Webb Look, Family Guy, Robot Chicken, Red Dwarf

Music: It has taken a while but I have finally worked out how to actually remember what music I like and that is to look at my bloody itunes library

SO:

Animal Logic, The Animals, Annie Lennox, Arcade Fire, BB King, Bach, The Beatles, Beirut, Bela Fleck, Bow Wow Wow, Brian Eno, Cannonball Adderley, Chick Corea, Chuck Berry, The Church, Cream, Cut Copy, Dave Brubeck, David Bowie, Dead Kennedys, Duran Duran, Frank Zappa, George Thorogood, Harry Chapin, Herbie Hancock, John Coltrane, John Lee Hooker, Jools Holland, Joy Division, Lady Gaga, Led Zepplin, Leonard Cohen, The Mars Volta, Metric, Miles Davis, Nirvana, Neil Young, Phoenix, Radiohead, Stan Getz, Violent Femmes.

And a lot of other stuff...

Books:The two books that have probably influenced me the most most are Douglas Hofstadters Godel, Escher, Bach and Hermann Hesse's The Glass Bead Game.

Asides from that I like: Siri Hustvedt, Auden, Dickens, Huxley, Steinbeck, Hesse, Wilde...

I would like to say all the classics but I haven't had the time yet.
