About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Meet people, see the world, and learn.

ABOUT ME

I'm pretty laid back and like to take stock in the simple things the world has to offer. I often get bored with the daily grind of doing the same thing every day or every week unless it legitimately brings me joy or peace of mind knowing I'm doing the world a favor. I like to try to break the cycle by doing things I don't normally, like meeting people with interesting stories, and going places I'll probably never have the chance to see again.

PHILOSOPHY

Non-malfesence. Do as little harm as possible, yet also strive to excel at interests you do have. And if you aren't interested, learn anyway because knowledge is power.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I'm willing to host people and like to keep my apartment clean enough that if my mother walked in she wouldn't have a heart attack. I always do my dishes and clean up after myself when I'm a guest, no matter if I'm couchsurfing at a friend's or through CS.org. Ideally I'd leave only footprints and take only photos, as the saying goes.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I used CS to take a very cold trip through New England in January 2014. I saw 5 states, and met some great people. I also participate by hosting in my spare room, with my queen size air mattress.

Interests

I can enjoy talking about anything that isn't something you'd have an average conversation about. By that I mean, I'd love discussing the psychology of sportsmanship, but I don't care who the local national football team plays as quarterback this Sunday. I see life as bigger than that. I like to think big but also small.

Music, Movies, and Books

I really enjoy period pieces where you can engulf yourself in the entire way of thinking of a time in history. I A Dangerous Method and Land and Freedom to be very good.
Punk: Black Flag, Fucked Up, Minor Threat, The Bouncing Souls.

Books: I like Russian Literature, but I've only read Dostoevsky. However, I also enjoyed The Sun Also Rises. I like to think big thoughts, and then bring them back into reality;I think both those authors do that very well in very different ways. I need to read some more novels by and about women; I'm realizing I've only been getting one side of the story for the most part.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I jumped into a frozen pond in heartland Ohio in February 2013. I'm still pretty young and haven't done or seen too much, in all honesty. In October 2013 I presented scientific findings at a conference in San Francisco, CA. I explored the bay area and liked it a lot, although I became very aware how 'Midwestern' I am despite thinking I was tough because I can survive Cleveland. I liked standing on my friends apartment in Brooklyn on a cold March night and looking across the river to New York City and realizing how insignificant I am in the big grand scheme of things. That also made me want to see as much as I can.

Teach, Learn, Share

I know some audio engineering and a little computer science. I know about antibiotics and about medicine as a whole to some extent. I know some car maintenance and repair, though I'd like to learn more.
I'm interested in the wilderness and making due with what is available to you. I also like re-purposing and reusing things most people would consider trash. At my place we recycle.

What I Can Share with Hosts
