PHILOSOPHY

I try (and occasionally succeed) in approaching the world with humility and respect. As I get older I find myself less certain of big, abstract beliefs, and more convinced that the best I can do is contribute a little the the world supply of kindness and goodwill, and help drain off a little bit of the world supply of hatred and violence.

I like honesty, and have a low natural tolerance for bullshit.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I am new to couchsurfing.org, but not to couch surfing! When I was young we lived in Sitka, Alaska, and many travelers came and stayed in the little cabin near our house. I remember many lively dinners with guests from all over the world.

When I got older I hitch-hiked and rode freight trains around the western US and Canada. I stayed on a lot of couches--with friends, friends of friends, and strangers. I've never had a negative experience. Now that my girlfriend and I have an apartment in Seattle with a couch and a spare room I feel like its time to repay some karma. I'd also like to stay with folks when I travel, especially internationally.

Interests

I am interested in a lot--I am studying tidal energy at school, and am interested in renewable energy in general. I like to rock climb, backpack, and be out in the wilderness. Lately I have gotten into dingy sailing, which is really fun. Bicycles, rock and roll,tree climbing, linux, open-source software, good beer, nice people....I'll leave it at that for now.
