We're Nick & Val Wheatley

We have been travelling on and off since 2008 (almost a decade!).

We first met in rainy Portland, Oregon and then moved to Oahu, Hawaii for a year of perfect weather, surfing, camping on beaches, and eating loads of Poke! After that we took off on a 16 month trip through South America and then SE Asia. We bought a converted van and slept in it for 3 months in New Zealand. Then we celebrated Thai New Year in Bangkok and got spiritual in India.

Now we're back on the road! We recently spent 6 months road tripping across the United States and camping in National Parks. We spent the summer in the Balkans and then hit Octoberfest in Munich.

We're always up for good food, good wine, good adventure!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

We love meeting locals who share our passion for travel! The greatest travel stories and experience never start by following the recommendations of the guide book. They happen when you step out of your comfort zone, make some local friends, and do something spontaneous.

We love writing and photographing our adventures, sharing stories from the road, inspiring other people to travel. Hoping to make this adventure last as long as possible!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Some of our greatest experiences have been
- Living in Hawaii for a year and trying to learn how to surf (unsuccessfully)
- Hiking the "W" trek through Torres del Paine National Park in Patagonia.
- Walking across the massive Perito Moreno glacier
- Following the Inca Trail to Macchu Picchu.
- Watching the sunrise from a hot air balloon in Cappadocia , Turkey
- Biking through hundreds of ancient temples in Bagan, Myanmar
