About Me
CURRENT MISSION
Figuring out where I'm supposed to be at any given moment.
ABOUT ME
I'm a pretty humble guy who hates at the thought of having to write about himself, but here we go:
- I love learning and talking to people about what makes them tick
- I can't remember the last time I had an argument with someone
- I adore animals (I'm vegetarian, but not in a militant/annoying way)
- I get momentarily obsessive about subjects and have to find out 'everything'
- Nature makes me giddy but I don't like having dirt under my nails
- I get antsy if I feel like I'm not learning or practising something
- I love studying about craft, whatever form it takes
- I love being around my friends, but I can also lock myself away in my studio for days on end and be perfectly happy
- I'm camera shy
- I asked for black nail polish for my eighth birthday. It was a phase I got out of the way really early.
I don't have any references to this 'cos I'm new and all, but if you want to research me then feel free to check out my Twitter feed (http://twitter.com/#!/NEDymond) or if you're super-curious and potentially a bit weird, I've got a LinkedIn profile too (http://uk.linkedin.com/in/nickdymondprofile)
PHILOSOPHY
I'm pretty sentimental, but people who say "music is love" deserve a slap. It's not love, it's tortuous unavoidable obsession... wait a minute!
"Be happy, be happy."
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
Very little so far.
Interests
More things than is sensible. I've been addicted to sound and music (but not The Sound of Music) since I was very little and can usually be found messing about with computers, electronics or pianos. Other interests are films, games, art, design and pretty much everything else besides. Going for walks. Sitting in parks. Live music. Bird song.

Music, Movies, and Books
Music: Way too much to list, but that sounds like a cop-out, right? So, here's a few bits and pieces:
- Electronic: Erm. Loads. Think Warp Records, Planet Mu, Output, Leaf, Ninja Tune, Milles Plateaux etc. etc.
- Blues and early folk (I've got a collection of early vinyl that I swoon over).
- Classical, Satie, Stravinksy, Schoenberg, Reich, Glass, Chopin, others I wont bore you with...
- Hip Hop, funk, jazz (I used to DJ in a funk band)
- Lots more besides - I hate this question! :)
Books: Philip K Dick, Kurt Vonnegut, Alan Moore, George Orwell, Moebius... The past couple of years I've pretty much only read non-fiction - mostly musicology and theory.
Movies: Herzog, Miyazaki, Kurosawa, Kubrick, Lynch, Cronenberg, Del Toro + loads of other directors and films that I either can't remember right now or I'm too lazy to type. I've just realised that listing directors instead of films makes me sound like a bit of a dick... ;)
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Sat alone beside Lake Hawea and watched the sun go down. Forest fires on the far shore were reflected in the vast still waters. Nothing made a sound.
Teach, Learn, Share
I can teach you, erm:
- audio production / recording
- how to build a recording studio or make the most of what you've got
- how to make an amazing vegetable lasagne
- music history
- how to feel better about something that gets you down (I hope)
