About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Continue to forge and participate in and support a compassionate community of good people living good lives.

ABOUT ME

I'm very easy-going, and lately I've been more academic than adventurous. I like to meet and talk with open-minded folks from all cultures to learn more about the world and myself within it, to share culture and learn about and understand other modes of thought. There's too much around to make assumptions, and good times can be had in a variety of ways and places.

PHILOSOPHY

talk in order to offer and not impose, listen to understand, seek through experience and reason, and question facts and symbols; try to be open-minded and tolerant, and love before forgetting about it

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

We surfed some in Europe and a little in the US, and we have hosted only a few people. We love the idea behind couchsuring, and we look forward to enjoying and reciprocating the experience more.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Molly and I really enjoyed couchsrufing in Europe; there's always something pleasant about sharing meals with (and cooking for) good acquaintances, our hosts. I have (Nick has) had very short visits for overnight accommodations and longer visits (a few days) when my host is one of the best parts of my trip and experience in the place I am visiting. All of my experiences have been positive when staying with others, and I have hosted a couple of people as well, who were good and/or strange. But my overall experience with CS is definitely positive. I spread the good word whenever I can.

Interests

learning other languages and cultures, playing sports, camping and hiking and biking, researching environmental/ecological, social, and psychological issues and theories and discussing them to learn more about the world and learn how to make it more enjoyable for more people

Music, Movies, and Books

Reading: Nonfiction, Philosophy, History; it's hard to get into specifics.

Music: Blues and Bluegrass, Folk, Rock, jazz; ""

Movies: lots of good ones, but I see few

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Machu Pichu is one of the most amazing cities I've visited. I also enjoyed biking in the Schwarzwald!

Teach, Learn, Share

I want to learn Spanish and German and more about sustainable technologies -- no matter how simple or "primitive," and I know math and physics fairly well and also a little bit about landscaping (plants and irrigation). I would like to learn a lot more about plants and their uses and about psychology. Cultures and 'economies' or ecosocieties as well as the perceptions of history and truth -- both in regards mainly to cognitive and linguistic phenomena -- interest me now. Too academic? I like the intellectual, but I find interest outside the formal vocabulary and structure of such perspectives.
