I currently have a 3-month leave of absence from work, and I'm spending every day of it in Southeast Asia! I'm trying to make the most of it by meeting fun people, seeing crazy sights, and maybe becoming a bit more of both along the way.

Originally from the tundra of Rochester, NY, I took a leap of faith and moved to Portland, OR sight unseen in 2008. I would say I never looked back, but I miss cheap pizza, snow and humble people. (I love you Portland, but sometimes you're a little too aware of your own awesomeness.)

You could call me an optimistic pragmatist. Pragmatic in that I I fully expect things to go wrong - and they do - but optimistic in that I prefer to roll with the punches, solve things and move on than wallow in it. You can't always control the circumstances you find yourself in, but you can control how you react. I'm still getting better at that part.

Air travel "shrank the world" by making it easier to get across it, but Couchsurfing is shrinking the world by truly bringing people from across it closer together. I dabbled with it as a way to get oriented in a new city almost 10 years ago, but ended up meeting new friends, hosting travelers on my own after I got settled, and meeting others abroad as I've traveled. The people and experiences I've shared over the years have really reshaped my worldview for the better.

我做过的一件不可思议的事情

Hiking the Snowbird Pass trail in Mt. Robson Provincial Park in BC takes the cake for the most amazing hike I've done and most incomprehensibly beautiful views I've ever seen. I'm not a religious guy, but if there's an argument for a higher power, it's up on that trail somewhere.

I'm a nerd. I have a knack with computers and other electronics, and would be more than happy to share what I know, or fix the stray computer problem when I get a chance.

I'm also a motorcyclist of about five years, and since I understand how hard it can be to get into the sport when you don't have any immediate family to show you the ropes, would be more than happy to talk bikes with beginners who have an interest but no one to show them the way.
