About Me

CURRENT MISSION

My goal is to visit 30 US states and 30 countries before I turn 30 years old, the more the better. I planning on spending the next few years traveling around the world. I would love to meet as many people as I can along the way.

ABOUT ME

I most recently lived in Washington DC for 2 years working for a non-profit organization, the International Leadership Association. I spent a year of this time flying for free on United Airlines as a stand-by passenger. While it may seem like a dream to be able to travel to a new city every weekend, it was not what I wanted in life. I wanted something more than plane snacks, jet lag, and a superficial view of each city/country I visited (most places I only visited for 24 hours). So, I decided to pack my bags (I'm a minimalist, so I actually only had one bag) and move to Brazil. I spent a year hopping in and out of Brazil and now I am finally ready to tackle the world. My biggest fear in life is wasting away my youth. Therefore, I want to push my body to the limits by making the trek around the world while I am still young and (semi-) healthy.

PHILOSOPHY

Never stop learning! In college, my roommate and I would challenge ourselves by having "weekly challenges". These challenges would consist of being vegetarian, meditating, being on social media (we rarely used it, so this was quite the experience), dream journaling, or not wearing shoes for a week (one of my personal favorites because it was surprising how much I learned that week).

I then carried this concept of "weekly challenges" to my 9-5 lifestyle in Washington DC, but instead of having weekly challenges, I would have monthly challenges. The challenges consisted of learning an instrument, painting, practicing mindfulness, watching documentaries, eating foods from around the world, visiting museums, eating vegetarian, dancing, etc.

Music, Movies, and Books

I listen to a lot of latin music and I would like to further diversify my playlist with songs from around the world. I prefer watching tv series over watching movies. Some of my fave consist of Parks and Rec, The Office, and Brooklyn Nine-Nine. I prefer reading non-fiction. What can I say? I'm a nerd.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

A category 5 hurricane made landfall on a small caribbean island called Dominica (not to be confused with the Dominican Republic). My best friend, a native to the island, was filming a documentary (view trailer on Youtube by searching "Uncivilized" Trailer (AKA Surviving Hurricane Maria in the Forest))about reconnecting to our primitive ways by living isolated in the forests. He miraculously survived the hurricane under his small man-made hut consisting of bamboo, sticks, banana leaves, and a tarp. After the storm, I was able to visit Dominica for several weeks. I helped distribute solar panels, solar lights, and solar batteries around the island. I also helped repair my friend's parent's roof on their house. I took bucket showers, bathed in the river, slept under leaking roofs, hammocks, and on the sandy beaches. Life was simple. It's not too often that you experience life without internet, shelter, and basic necessities. It is one of the moments in my life I will cherish the most.
