Overview
About Me
CURRENT MISSION
at the start of a 5-year plan to write my 3th book - for which I also happen to need to make A LOT of challenging life-experiences
ABOUT ME
Writer, activist, journalist (Nick) + teacher, trekkingguide (Fany) + explorer (Flora)
PHILOSOPHY
Atheist, green-left and cosmopolitan. I'm a political ecologist but refuse to have any party affiliation.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I've been staying with families in Nepal, India and Pakistan - where I spend 2 years (all 7 visits combined) - but that was not in any format like this. I've got great memories from these times and now like to return the favor and get to meet other people from other cultures here in my place.
Interests
Free time often means going outdoors for walking, the play-yard or just cycling to somewhere (as we don't have a car or a television). In Nick's case it also means writing on his 3th book while Fany likes yoga and sewing and Flora loves puzzles and playing games.

Music, Movies, and Books
Into the wild (music, movie AND book)
Dystopia like 1984, A brave new world, animal farm, war with the newts
Everything from Frank Westerman and Jared Diamond
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Walking 500km in North-West Nepal through monsoon tormented country and waste deep snow to reach the most isolated valley I every visited: Limi valley. That was our honeymoon :-)
Teach, Learn, Share
I give lectures here in belgium on Nepal, climate change, green economy, ecological economics from the ground up, activism, development aid big & small, volunteering, ... I also wrote two books. One journalistic travelstory on globalisation and how global trends manifest themselves in Nepal and one philosofical travelstory on the art of walking (with a subsection for doing that with babies/children). The couches for sleeping are surrounded by 200 books and 100 issues of national geographic and i have a couple of hunderd more books in my bedroom. Most in Dutch, but maybe 10% in english and 5% in french. Almost all national geographics are english.
