My name is Nickolas and I am originally from Los Angeles but have been living overseas for the past 12 years. New Zealand is my home now which I love and want to help other travellers in their own journey. I’ve travelled extensively myself and want to pay the hospitality I’ve been shown over the years back to other travellers.

I work full time in game development here in New Zealand but my passions are travel, reading, self sustainability and reduced waste living.

Politically, philosophically and morally I’m anti Trump, Putin and right wing so if you swing this way we can save us both the time and unrest.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

My partner has been using Couchsurfing for a while now and we have hosted many times now in our home having really good experiences with it. I figured it would be good to have my own account as well to help people staying with us to better know me in advance but also for when we travel abroad to put at ease any potential hosts who see her profile but have that mysterious +1 who you don't know anything about.

Music, Movies, and Books

Books: I am always reading three books at a time. 1. Classic or Russian 2. Science Fiction/Fantasy 3. Light comic volume or graphic novel. Books are a big passion of mine. I once worked at a book store with Ray Bradbury's daughter. Books have always been a big part of my life. The world doesn’t read enough.

Music: Most everything from punk to rock to classical to jazz. I used to be a bass player in different bands so my ear is eclectic. We have a lot of different Spotify playlists we rotate and we’ve even been slowly building a Couchsurfing playlist with contributions from people we host. Music is like food or art, it’s a personal taste. To each their own and always open for new influences.

Movies: Again, so many to go into but we love our film and TV. We are running out of things to watch on Netflix

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I met the Prime Minister of New Zealand (Jacinda) and gave her a demo on new mixed reality technology that I work with. She was absolutely lovely. A great experience.
