About Me

You probably will think I'm strange, but people are strange when you're a stranger. I make a point of being myself immediately. Sometimes it scares people off if you don't dip your toes in first, but I tend to jump in head first regardless of how shallow the water may be. I'm smart and stubborn, friendly and fierce and a fervent fanatic of all forms of alliteration.

I've been told I have muse-like qualities. I agree with this and sometimes am at odds with the idea that I can inspire others to create or do amazing things, but can never find passion for anything I do. It takes a lot to get me motivated, but when I have momentum, I am an unstoppable force. Kind of like Juggernaut from X-Men.

I want to travel the globe and share my dream of a united world.

PHILOSOPHY

Golden rule. I live my life honestly and don't pull any punches. I live in a world where I feel I'm destined to be sad and alone fighting against all odds to make the world a better place. A bit like Batman, I guess. I believe in the theory of world peace and though I am only one man, I honestly believe that some day the time will come where I can make a difference. One man alone may not be able to change the world, but one man at a time...that's a different story.

On the same note, I also believe in vigilante justice and I will throw eggs at you from my bedroom window if you ride a loud motorcycle past my apartment when I'm trying to sleep.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I occasionally travel, I periodically attend meetings, I meet folks for drinks and host as much as is reasonable. I also spread the gospel offline and invite people to the project that feel would be good contributors.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I was introduced the CouchSurfing project when I lived in a large house with a few different roommates. One day when I came home from work, I went into the living room to play Wii and a bushy-bearded old man with a large backpack and several empty bottles of beer had set-up camp on the couch. I shrugged my shoulders thinking there had to be some sort of explanation and went to my room. Later, when I told my roommate about my experience, he told me about CS.

Over 2 years later, when Michael Jackson died and left my friend and I with two useless concert tickets, we did the right thing and toured some countries in Europe instead of mopping around London. CSing is a great way to get inside a city, see local sites and meet friendly people.

Interests

I'll try anything best two out of three times. Some things that have beaten the odds are playing darts, drums and poker, cooking, singing, hiking, watching films and infuriating people.

Music, Movies, and Books

I'm uneducated, uninterested and not amused.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

One day I climbed to the top of a mountain and fed peanuts to wild monkeys all day. I had never gotten to hang out with monkeys before that time and while I've likely done quite a few things that would sound more impressive to an adult, I think that little kids would really think I was a cool guy if I told them this story.

Teach, Learn, Share

"Yo mamma" jokes (which gained popularity in the United States several years ago) are not received with a laugh and quick dismissal in most countries as they might be in the states. I would highly recommend against insulting other people's mothers while traveling. I can not emphasis this enough.

For those coming to travel in Japan, here are some helpful things for you. First is the best website for looking up train schedules. It's very easy to use.

For those who are trying to cover a large distance on their trip and need to save money, you should consider the "Japan Bus Pass" which allows you to take up to two long distance buses a day. I think the price is really reasonable.
