About Me

I’m a 22-years-old journalist, currently studying political sciences. I was born in Concepcion (Chile) where I’ve lived most of my life. When I was 21 I moved to Victoria (BC, Canada) to improve my knowledge about governance and international relations in the University of Victoria at expenses of a Canadian government scholarship (thank you my Canadian friends, your taxes paid my studies!).

Back home in Chile I have a beautiful dog (Labrador) named Allie, and two younger siblings, my brother is 11 and we share birthday and my sister is 15 years old.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I’ve always wanted to travel the world, since I was little I used to make plans for travel across the world with my grandma, but she died about a year ago and I decided to go anyway, by myself. When I got to Canada I met an awesome friend and she has travel the world for the past year, she had so many stories about so many beautiful places that she inspired me to keep on this track.

Interests

I’m interested on several things, primarily in politics, international relations, diplomacy and cultural studies. I love to meet new people, get to know new cultures and learning new languages. I’ve always had this idea about the only way of getting to know a place is being there for a while, I read a lot, but that’s not enough to actually know somewhere.
In my free time I watch a lot of TV shows and read a lot. I have a kindle and I take it with me everywhere to keep reading papers (I’m such a nerd about it), my current research topics are Putin’s Russia, 1970 Salvador Allende’s Government, 1973 Military Dictatorship in Chile, Human Rights in Latin America and Middle East policies.

Music, Movies, and Books

I don’t have many favourites in music besides MUSE, Florence + the machine, Coldplay and Lana del Rey. I can listen pretty much everything and I love Latin American music such as Silvio Rodríguez, Manuel García and Calle 13.
Regarding to movies I don’t ever get bored of watching Cube, a beautiful mind, War World Z, Inception, Catch me if you can and Lord of the Rings.
In TV shows my favourites are The Newsroom, Game of Thrones, Doctor Who, Fringe, The Blacklist, House of Cards, Gossip Girl, Sherlock and Big Bang theory.
In books is more complicated, but I guess I can always say –because I will always love- 1984, A brave new world, The secret garden, the prince, leviathan.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I don’t know if it’s amazing, most people think I’m crazy, but I’d like to think that I was brave when I moved to Canada to study without proven English skills. Before I moved I have never lived alone outside my house (I used to live with my parents) and I have never spoken english for more than 10 minutes in my life.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach and help to practice Spanish or English and I can share my town whenever I’m there.

What I Can Share with Hosts

The same, I can help to practice Spanish to English-speaking hosts, I can share my cooking skills (that I would say are pretty good) and a lot of stories, laughs and controversial political points of view. I can also give a class of political theory, but I’m afraid that must be boring for most people.

Countries I’ve Visited

Argentina, Canada, Peru, United States

Countries I’ve Lived In
