About Me

Hi there, nice to meet you!
After a few years of getting my law degree and working as an attorney back home in Argentina, I decided to pack my bags and moving to Australia, with the plan of saving money and travelling.
I’ve always been a quiet guy who loved spending his weekends with family and friends, playing/ watching football, drinking, going out dancing. But I started feeling there was more to life than that such as meeting new (and specially different) people, learning from other cultures, trying new things.
Even when I had already backpacked a few years ago, the experience of buying a one way ticket was a thrill, knowing that from that point onwards everything was up to me. Every new encounter led to new opportunities, learning new and unexpected skill, people with different backgrounds and from every little corner of the world.
Since then, I’ve been trying hard not to get too comfortable any more and constantly be looking out for new challenges. But even more important, discovering new things about myself. Being constantly exposed to new people, cultures and situations, I was also able to retrace my own steps, see thinks from a new perspective and try to learn from them.
After a few years travelling (and also saving some money) Down Under and around Asia, I felt I was getting a bit too comfortable again, so started making some new plans to move to Europe and study a masters degree over there. But in the meantime, I decided to take at least one full year and make my way over there by land, and mostly travelling on a motorcycle.
Even after long hours riding when your back hurts or after being soaked in bad weather, travelling on a bike has definitely been the best choice I’ve made during my trip. It doesn’t only provide excitement and freedom, but also forces you to constantly pay attention on the road, the landscape, the people, and getting into uncharted territory. Although I’ve always been organised and love making plans, my bikes have contributed to tear them apart completely, which resulted probably in the most memorable experiences since I left home. Because in the end (as you surely know if you’ve been reading this) travelling is not about places, but about experiences and our own feelings towards them.
So far I’ve made my way through South East Asia, India and Nepal, but will be flying to South Africa shortly to try to buy a new bike over there and start driving all the way up the west coast!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I had always been sceptical about Coachsurfing because I had never traveled before without fixed plans and was scared of feeling like a burden to my host. On the other hand, I haven’t had a place of my own in the last three and a half years (between sharing houses, hostels, dorms, car and tent) so I felt guilty of not being able to host people myself. But on my travels I’ve met many interesting people who spoke wonders about it, so it will probably end up being an excellent platform to connect with people and share new experiences!

Music, Movies, and Books

Most of my family are big movie fans and when I was still back home one of my favourite moments of the week was having lunch with my uncles and cousins and talking about new movies and shows everyone had seen.
Although I tend to like movies that make me think (Inception, Shutter Island, The Prestige, Se7en, Interstellar), people usually notice that I also dig lots of romantic comedies, and if I had to choose a favourite, Marley & Me takes the prize (it has a dog on it, I can’t help it!). In the last years I also became a big fan of Marvel movies!
For TV shows, my top ten probably include Sons of Anarchy, Breaking Bad, first 3 and a half season of Vikings, and Season One of True Detective, but I guess that’s typical.
When it comes to books, Tolkien has always been my favourite until I got a hold on George Martin (history was my favourite subject in school, but my mom jokes I know more about the Targaryen kings than WW2). I read a bit of everything from adventures (Clive Cussler, Wilbur Smith), autobiographies, travels (Bill Bryson, Ted Simon), novels. Last year I even went for Gone Girl and finished it in only two days! I had the chance to read Shantaram a few months before travelling to India and there’s no doubt it on my Top Ten.
I would not be able to live without music. Some of my friends even call me Spotify because I usually sing out loud without even realising and have a really good memory for the lyrics. Though I believe iPod Shuffle would be most accurate because I can swap from Bob Dylan to Backstret Boys and then to the Lion King in a blink of an eye.
I believe the Beatles were the best ever, but spend more time listening to the Stones. Love chill folk, blues, jazz. Tend to listen to rock from the 60s and 70s, but also love disco music to dance, and can’t deny my Latin roots when I go out to parties.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I’ve had some unreal experiences during the last years travelling and most of them turned out to be amazing. Like I said before, maybe the ones we remember the most are not entirely related to the most beautiful places, but of the memories we keep from them.
Some fun ones:
- Driving around Australia camping and sleeping inside my old Mazda Tribute SUV.
- Missing a flight in Shanghai during the Chinese holiday week, where after sleeping on the airport (and in the middle of complete chaos) we found a plane the next morning from another Airline who took me and a friend to Xi An without even paying for it!
- End up having a barbecue and home-brewed whisky with an elderly nudist community in Rockhampton, while touring my bike through the Australian East Coast.
- Scuba Diving inside WW2 shipwrecks in the Phillipines.
- Surfing a perfect 80 metre long wave for a few days in the lovely little town of Batu Karas in Java, Indonesia.
- Riding my bike for a few days in the Ha Giang Loop in North Vietnam with stunning landscapes and even sneaking into China for a few pictures.
- Celebrating the Tazaungmon festival in Taunggyi, Myanmar. The fire balloons and fireworks where memorable, but the happiness of the Burmese people stole all the spotlights.
- Riding my Royal Enfield for over two months through India and Nepal.
- Dancing Salsa for a whole day to keep myself warm after being stuck for over 40 hours in Annapurna Base Camp due to a snowstorm.

Teach, Learn, Share

I’m more than happy to try and learn new things. I’m fascinated by human behaviour and love talking about differences and similarities between cultures. Even when the package and some habits might seem a bit different, we all want the same things and sharing our perspectives also makes us discover new things from ourselves!
(Although if I find someone willing to teach me some motorcycle mechanic basics I would be much more than welcome =)).

What I Can Share with Hosts

Because I’ve been roaming around for a bit I probably have some interesting and funny stories to tell, but surely would enjoy more listening to yours.
Although I am a lawyer by profession, I’ve picked up some skills during my last years so might even be able to fix some furniture! I enjoy cooking but I’m not so sure my friends can say the same about its results. I can also help you practice a bit of Spanish or English.
The last years of my life have been completely unexpected but more than welcomed, since I decided to do something else with life and try to follow my dreams a bit more. I would love to hear about yours!
