First of all we want to thank you for taking the time to read our profile! We hope it’ll be worth your while... We are two guys from Belgium, Nicolas from the French-speaking part, Roel from the Dutch-speaking part. In 2012 we left Belgium behind us to go live and work in the fascinating, buzzing city of London (UK) where we stayed for almost 7 years. While working hard we always created time to explore near and far and traveled quite extensively to all different parts of the world.

While traveling we volunteered in Myanmar for a couple of weeks (June/July 2018) teaching kids in a monastery school and helping them to put their organic restaurant on the map to attract more locals and tourists alike in order to increase a revenue stream for them to benefit the children. In Vietnam we worked in a newly opened hotel/bar/restaurant. We helped the local managers to train their staff on all (western) hospitality standards and created some operational standards for them to work with in the future. We also stripped and refurbished a studio apartment in Brussels 2 years ago and organised loads of dinner parties of different shapes and sizes.

We are open minded and honest. We are easy-going and hard-working. Focused and flexible. We’re keen on learning new things, especially about hosting and hospitality, local food & culture, nature & the conservation of it.

我为什么加入 Couchsurfing

As you can see, we love to explore very much but we realise that we wanted to take more time. Time to discover a region more profoundly. Time to get under the skin of an interesting culture. Time to learn a new skill. Time to meet new people. Time to take it all in...
That’s why we quit our jobs and apartment, sold or stored our things and took off. And although it’s only the beginning (traveling since May 2018), we've met already so many interesting people and communities, but are always hungry for more ;-)

When we travel we truly believe that it is a combination of people and places that makes travel such an enriching experience. Like they say: “traveling is the only way to spend money that makes you rich!”

We have quite an eclectic music taste going from bombastic opera to cheerful pop music: Monteverdi to Madonna, Bach to Beyoncé. Björk to Bartolli. We’re also fan of rhythmic dance music of all sorts from latino raggaton to Berlin techno. There is a time and place for any.
We try to watch movies the old school way, namely in cinemas. Home is for Netflix. We love some Pedro Almodovar or François Ozon, but we’ll equally devour any marvel super hero movie. We’ve been following Tim Burton throughout and love anything with Cate Blanchett in it. On Netflix we’re looking forward to the new seasons of The Crown or Atypical, loved Downton Abbey and Daredevil and try some animations now and then.
We’re not big readers to be honest. Our heads have been in travel guides mostly (preferably Lonely planet for countries and Wallpaper Cityguide for cities)

我做过的一件不可思议的事情

Maybe the most amazing thing we’ve done is quit our comfortable life in London and swap it for a backpack with some basics but enough room for all the cultural bagage and interesting exchanges we’d find along the way.

Helping kids with teaching and hygiene in a Buddhustic Monastery School in Myanmar was also pretty amazing 😉

Our dream (after traveling) is to open a guesthouse/hostel of ourselves back in Belgium so we’re eager to learn as much of the things that can help us achieving that as possible. Running a kitchen, making the beds, making the perfect omelette, baking the best gluten free bread, dealing with customers, dealing with different cultures, special requests, concierge services, stock management, bookkeeping, authorities, rules and regulations, anything really. Even if you’re not at all familiar with any of the things we just mentioned, than we’re still convinced that an exchange with you will help us in a valuable way.

But above all we'd like to meet good people, who have got the right attitude to make a difference and to make it count. People with an open mind, sharing their knowledge and their home. Together we can make a change, doesn’t matter if it is small or big, but always significant!

We’ve been hard working professionals for 15 years.
Nicolas has always worked in five star luxury hotels and hospitality outlets.
Roel has worked in events, marketing and project management.
So we have quite some experience and know-how to share and we could teach you a couple of tricks we learned along the way.

We’ve been traveling quite extensively as well, so we can give advise and recommend what to to do or avoid, what worked well for us and what didn’t.

We can also whip up a decent Belgian meal or look for a nice bottle of wine to pair and share.

And most importantly, we’d love to chat and talk!
